I thought this story was great! Thank you to all of our city workers for the work they do! Thanks Clayton! Reply...
please tell me there is something better to do in minot. Reply...
When someone dies, it's customary (here in the US) for friends and relatives to give an amount of money to the deceased individuals family (or a card, news clippings of the deceased, pictures, etc. ) IN THE NAME OF THE DECEASED. (Not mandatory - just thoughful)! That is EXACTLY what this man, Bob is doing. Giving something in the name of his deceased nephew. Get over it!!! EVERYONE does it when someone close to them dies. There should be more people like Bob in this world. Next year, get in line for a friggin' backpack and see if THAT will make you feel better!!! Reply...
oh, Jessie, what did you mean by "He's giving these bikes in memory of his nephew because he wants other kids to have the childhood Daysun can't". Daysun was 17 when he was tragically killed. I remember childhood as being when I was less than 10. I would call Daysun a young adult, at the very least. Yes, he was still a child, but he had grown into a fine young adult. He did make a bad decision that night. I've made them too. I WILL admit it. I paid the price for my mistakes and learned from them. It's too bad that Daysun wasn't able to just learn from this mistake. It is always tragic when someone loses their life. Again, read my previous posts. I'm not bashing Mr. Gross for what he is doing. Get that straight in your head. Reply...
So if he is giving through Companions for Children, why is he sitting in the park giving them away? Wouldn't it make sense to take them directly to Companions for Children and let them hand them out? READ MY POSTS!! I'M NOT BAD MOUTHING MR. GROSS. He is doing something worthwhile. If you don't like my point of view, don't read it. DUUUUHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just don't see the point of having a story about it every year. Plain and simple. That was the only point I was ever trying to make. LEARN HOW TO READ IF YOU ARE GOING TO CRITICIZE WHAT I AM SAYING!!! Reply...
well again what gives and devil dog are commenting on something they apparently know nothing about. Why not just shut up on the subject, and get on with finding things in your own life to do to help out others in need. Let Bob do as he feels fit to do in rememberance of his nephew. What he is doing is a very wonderful thing for the children in our city and im sure they hear the story of what happened to dyson when they leave and ask their parents why Bob does what he does. That in itself is a more positive way for them to hear about something so tragic ,coming from their parents, who will also at that time talk with them about the counsequences of thier actions, and how they should avoid them......SO Bob, keep up the good work and thank you for being their for all of our children that need it. YOU ARE REMARKABLE. Reply...
FYI Morons! He does donate them through Companions for Children and other "worthwhile charities"! Do you honestly think he's just going to buy a lot of bikes and have them there for any kid to take?
Now....just because he is not standing on a pedestal preaching to kids about seatbelts and drinking does not mean he isn't interested in protecting the "next kid". When you were a kid... be honest... you can't tell me you didn't go joy riding with your buddies, do something stupid, have lack of judgement.... step down, just for a minute, and be honest. Lack of discipline? Bullsh*t.. he was a teenager and things happen. Should he have been out at that hour..probably not.. obviously not that night.. but it happens. We ALL made poor choices at that age!
Bob is making all these items available to kids who normally wouldn't have them. He is paying for these item out of his pocket and GIVING to others. He just wants to give something to someone because it makes him happy to do so... would it make you feel better if he stood on a street corner with a sign that said "wear your seatbelt, don't drink and drive"? He's giving these bikes in memory of his nephew because he wants other kids to have the childhood Daysun can't. Have you ever thought, all it takes is one of these bikes to give a kid his childhood and maybe keep him or her from making a wrong choice... not forever.. but maybe just once..... preaching to kids isn't very effective and you can't lock them in a closet to keep them safe. They will do what they do, just like you and I did. He is making a difference in Minot and it's too bad some of you are too damn ignorant and stuck on yourselves to recognize it.
Reply...
I never said he was a bad guy either. I agree with devildog, though, about going out and preaching about not doing what Daysun did, in order to protect the next kid. Donate the backpacks and school supplies, as well as the bikes, to charities that will be certain that a child that really needs one gets it, rather than some of the kids that are standing in line to get them from Mr. Gross. Some of those kids have more money than Exxon, and they don't need to be in line for a handout. Give the stuff to Companions for Children, or the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, or some other worthwhile charity that is dealing with kids that have nothing. Reply...
I dont think this whole incident/accident (referring to how he died) that happened is a good thing at all. Clearly it shows lack of discipline involved in this family. NO WAY IN HE** was I able to run the streets at that age especially at that time in the morning(and apparently for good reason). I agree with devildog....there should be more emphasis on the tragedy at hand (dont drink and drive, wear seatbelts). Reply...
maybe since everybody keeps talking abut how great this guy maybe just maybe he should be talk to kids about the importance of wearing seatbelts and not drinking and driving HMMMMMM. instead of giving away backpacks just and idea. Reply...
LasVegas you must be stupid I in NO WAY said what this guy is doing is bad or he should stop doing it try reading next time the only thing I said was why they continue to put it in the news but who cares and by the way I have lived in North Dakota my whole life. Maybe you should try to get a life or at least read the whole story next time. Reply...
To what gives & devildog!! your names speak for themselves. Let this family do what they want to do to keep their family members memory alive. What is he doing to hurt you? Nothing!! What do you do for memories of a lost loved one? Everyone has there own way of expressing grief and sorrow, and believing that the legacy of a loved one should live on. And that is what this family is doing letting the legacy and memories of their nephew live on and on. He is a great part of the community, always giving and giving. You should be ashamed on yourselves for acting the way you are and condoning this family for what they are doing. The reason the world is the way it is today is because of people like "what gives and devildog". No compassion for people. You sound like a bunch of cold hearted people. I come from North Dakota and now live in Vegas. the people in North Dakota are a great bunch of people. You two (what gives and devildog) must of migrated North from somewhere else. North Dakotan's don't act or think the way you guys do. Get a life and leave this family alone. Reply...
First off....thank you to Bob and the rest of the Gross family for keeping the memory of a loved one alive in such an inspiring way, we should be taking notes instead of inventory on these people! God Bless you!
I am shocked at what I am reading.....I cannot believe anyone would have a problem with the news doing a story on this issue....Isn't it the same as the annual blood drive? No one makes a stink about that! I am deeply disturbed by the fact that anyone could make a negative comment about what this family is doing. For starters, I know Bob personally and he is not asking for this lime light, in fact, he always declines to comment and asked not to be photographed, because he says that this is about the kids and NOT HIM! Secondly, what I find to be upsetting is, how can ANYONE that 'supposedly' volunteers their time be so upset, that they want to deface property. What gives? People do this kind of work for the better of society and to set a good example, usually humbly asking to be blessed, not published!!!!!!! Reply...
devildog - thank you. Finally someone knows how to read around here. Reply...
What is on the KXMC home page? Oh yes,.. Another young drunk driver has pushed his truck into a ladys house. A preachers wife is off the hook. Murder. Homicide. Is it so aweful to hear of a touching story like Bob and his family doing a WONDERFUL thing for the children in this little town? I know Bob, I have had the pleasure of working with him for a long time. Bob doesn't just do these kind of things in front of the news camera, he does them all the time! Bob is the type of man that HAS dropped his very busy work to drive across town to bring me a sandwich when I broke my foot and was unable to drive. Bob invited me to the park for the bike giveaway with my son and all of the bikes were given to all of the children that were there,.. my son that day did not get a bike Bob had none left AND THAT IS A GOOD THING! Bob felt so bad that he showed up at my house with a bike for my son the next day. He is a very good man. Reply...
I dont think what gives is saying anything bad about anybody or what they do I think and agree with him, when there is all this other stuff going on in our city do we really need to continue to hear about this "how many years ago did this happen", who cares nobody business I think the news channels around could to a better job on keeping us informed with current issues and not a guy and his pet geese for example. Reply...
To "what gives": If you don't like seeing that article every year, then don't read it!!! Simple as that! Let others involved in the project feel good about doing something good, just as you do for the things you do for the community....A youngster lost his life. Take a chill pill! Reply...
Wow you must be a hell of a volunteer with a negative attitude like that! Are you jealous because no one is patting you on the back.
Here is a little pat for you and your volunteering! I am not so sure I would want you helping out my organization with your attitude toward people who make a difference in childrens lives. I don't believe this man has asked the news media to be at any of his giveaways. It is obvious that you have never lost anyone close in your life. Reply...
I would like to comment to What gives...Its great you volunteer your time, and I am sure that it is greatly appreciated. I too love to give my time, when I can. The smiles and satisfaction that I recieve are all I need to know that I am appreciated, it makes my day to know that I was able to help someone because I can and as long as I am able to do what I can I will continue.
So what, if the media is dong coverage on the Family in Daysuns memory it is nice to see! LIFE IS TO SHORT!!! quit you complaining and smile!
To the Daysun Family...Thank you for all you are doing!! I really appreciate it and hope that you continue...please dont let the negative comments stop you, I think you are doing a great job!! Reply...
