Just stop arguing about this. It's childish, and stop trashing the Obama's just because he's a liberal. He gave away alot of money, and nobody can argue that, and you can't compare him to someone else that gave more. That's not right. Take the rafter out of your own eye before you try to take the splinter out of someone else's...... Reply...

The President and his wife gave $172,050 - about 6.5 percent of his gross income - to charities....that ain't stingy. Reply...

Obama and Biden are both stingy. Reply...
37, I just see the fact that the Obama's are very generous. McCain did okay s well. Reply...
Marliyn, there are humorous aspects to this thread; The right will tell you how much more they donated to charity, than the left... then the left will point out how much has been donated to "charities" like Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker...and the other televangelists.. Then the right will try to defend the televangelists..and that gets really funny.. Reply...
On his 2007 tax returns, Obama donated a whopping $240,370 to charities. That’s around 5.7% of his income. Obama made $4,139,965 for that year and paid $1,396,772 in taxes. Barack and Michelle donated to $22,500 to the Trinity United Church of Christ; $15,000 for CARE, $15,000 for the international relief organization,; and $5,000 to the Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago. Another interesting fact is that as the Obamas’ wealth grew, the amount they donated also increased.
Senator Joe Biden made around $320,000 last year. Out of that money he donated $995. That only accounts for 0.3% of his income. Out of all the candidates, Biden gave by far the least.
Next up is the Republican ticket. Presidential candidate John McCain made a reported $405,909. Out of that he donated $105,467, which is an impressive 26% of his income. McCain didn’t donate money to individual charities, he donated to the McCain Family Foundation, which makes direct contributions to charities. Some of the charities that received money from the foundation were Operation Smile and the Halo Trust. An interesting side note is that Cindy McCain is worth an estimated $100 million. This is important because the Obama family’s income comes solely from Barack. It’s unknown how much Mrs. McCain donated to charity, as she didn’t release her tax information.
In 2007, Sarah Palin made exactly $166,080. She proceeded to donate $2,500 to charity in cash/check donations and $825 in non-cash/check donations, for a total of $3,325. This is 1.5% of her adjusted gross income. Reply...
Biden Releases 10 Years of Tax Returns
Joe Biden today released ten years of his personal income tax returns, drawing further attention to the tax issues raised by Sarah Palin's tax problems associated with her per diem reimbursements while governor of Alaska.
I wonder, though, if the move might backfire because the returns show that the Bidens have been amazingly tight-fisted when it comes to their charitable giving. Despite income ranging from $210,432 - $321,379 over the ten-year period, the Bidens have given only $120 - $995 per year to charity, which amounts to 0.06% - 0.31% of their income:
It is jarring that a couple earning over $200,000 per year would give as little as $2 per week to charity. This giving compares very unfavorably to John McCain, whose tax returns show that he gave 27.3% - 28.6% of his income to charity in 2006-2007. During the same period, the Obamas' tax returns show that they gave 5.8% - 6.1% of their income to charity.
Perhaps the Obama-Biden campaign needs a new slogan: "Change You Can Believe In (As Long As Someone Else Pays For It)"
Update: Independent Sector reports that 89% of American households contribute to charity, with an average contribution of $1,620 - - 3.1% of income. Reply...
