you mention you as well would have bred them... I wouldnt do that...save their lives...too much breeding like they did the rottweiller has made them useless..their bones are too weak to hold them up... ya! I totally hate puppy mills.. seen too many nasty fat lonely women who do this..you tryna be one them? jusrt drop this...Im not and shud not have sed anythign...hell! rape seven yr olds..its ok... breed dogs and cats and make the wolrd sick every day reading about more puppy mills and catteries...Im so upset ... I love dogs also. I have a formal dining room and living room where dogs are not allowed. The rest of the house and yard is free reign. I could not imagine life without a dog. I am allergic to cats, but when I walk in the morning when I see a cat and it comes up to me I bend down to pet it. Just as long as it doesn’t rub against me or bite me, I have to go to the hospital for cat bites. Did you ever see the Batman movie where Michelle Phifer gets chewed up by cats, then becomes Cat Woman. That is a nightmare, a clown with a cat that is a double nightmare! In the military I was a K-9 handler, I am pretty sure a dog save my life once. I am still so sad I had to put that big dog down a few weeks ago. Reply...
Theresa, I got my English Setter from a woman in Fargo last October who listed her to give away on the bisman website. This woman had been living with a guy who took off on her and left his dog behind. The woman was pregnant and already had two other kids and another dog, and she couldn't afford to take care of his dog too. When I got her, she was literally skin and bones. Now she's fat (way too fat) and beautiful. And, if the jerk ever wants her back - - - - -too bad. Reply...
I guess it's all about what you like. I love animals, so I have a house full of them. And, my house does smell like animals even though I try and keep the smell down. And I have to put up with alot of fur and feathers, but I love them, and would hate to live without them.
To each his own. Reply...
Thanks Pets you are a good person to animals, that why I wanted to ask you about the self shots. I have to be at the vet at 2 PM I will ask her the scoop. I am sure she will do a freak out also, and redo the shots. I wish you could see the difference in these dogs from yesterday and today. Yesterday the smelt of poop and urine, their hair was all matted, and they couldn’t not see through their hair. They hid from us. Now they are running around the house. They still don’t know what to do with a ball, I am trying to teach them, they are happy. I hope something is done about the puppy mill, there are so many here in North Dakota. Reply...
I think dogs are too much trouble. I wouldn't have another one, and especially not an indoor animal. You can all say, oh my house doesn't smell, but believe me, your house smells. :( There isn't enough Fabreeze in the stores to stop the dog and cat odor..
As my husband and I were traveling from Pittsburgh this weekend everytime we stopped we saw so many people traveling with BIG HUGE DOGS! I was amazed. I can't imagine long trips with slobbering dogs, or dogs that let air. Yuk.
I am saying I don't like a nice dog, I am ok with it, as long as its someone elses. Reply...
Theresa, I think Prairie was mixing me up with you. I said something about coyotes killing cats and that made her mad (I think). I was half way kidding about that, and half way not. We never seem to loose any cats (not even naturally from disease or predators), thus we have an overabundance of cats to take care of.
As for getting animals spayed or neutered, I agree that should be done. The original two cats that started our barn cat population were not our cats. That's why we didn't get them fixed. Our indoor cats are fixed, as well as our dogs.
Anyway, Prairie, if you read this, Theresa didn't do anything but rescue a couple of dogs from a puppy mill. Nothing wrong with that, and she paid alot for them too. As for me, I spend a whole lot of money on cat food every month feeding the offspring of my neighbors two cats because they didn't bother to have their cats fixed. Reply...
They are going to have a better life than some people, which is so unfortunate for this word. They are going to loved and fed homemade dog food, made with cooked wild rice and chopped sirloin with vegetables. They have color in their eyes today, yesterday they were charcoal. They will never sleep outside again and be groomed. All the matted hair was cut out of them, I put four hour into these dogs yesterday, grooming then. Reply...
The two males I purchased were going to be used just to stud females that were there only use. What did I do wrong? Reply...
Prairie Fire I saved two dogs and I did turn them into PETA. I don’t, I paid allot of money ($600.00) for these two dogs to get them out of there, I only wanted one. Now I have w to put about three hundred to get them fixed. Why do you get so mad at me all the time? Reply...
teresa: YOU need to turn in that puppy mill MISS "I LOVE DAWGS!" snake shots, dog shots, cat shots...otc...all of them.... why bother with animals if your buying them from a mill? peta shud step in...!
as for coyotes and someone wishing for the kill???? you suck! just put some antifreeze out in a dish and leave it for them mass murder! for the dogs too... I cana beleeve teresa... you stand here and give us a sob story! show this post to peta and make them do their jobs...EWWW! YOU have made me very NOT happy alredddy! YOU TOTALLY SUCK TERESA!\so u save two pups ya shudda had them turned in..their poopie holes were blocked? I hope you NEVER suffer that... what else are them dogs going thru? YOU SUCK! Thats all I can say..IM SO UPSET!... Reply...
I am taking both of the puppies to the vet today with the shot records that she gave me. She gave them all their shots herself. I have never been to puppy mill before. These poor dogs have never run free and their nine months old. She had other dogs Boxers, Weimaraners, other kinds of terriers. I think she discovered Scotties are too much work with their coats. I have to really work on training them but they are so cute. I am still so amazed you can buy dog shots at home of economy. Reply...
I am enough of a cat lover to wish all of you just prevented the cats from multiplying! Where is PETA? cats getting shot or fed to snakes... cruel. Its best to just get them fixed, or use mouse traps and not hundreds of kittens as traps.
I just don't see it. Its cruel. There needs to be a cheaper better way to prevent the overrun of cats and dogs.... The pound if already full of animals going to their death. Its up to whoever owns the cats to get them fixed... Reply...
Thanks, Sneaky, I have given away a whole bunch of kittens to people at work. I have run out of people to give them to. I will try and put up some posters at TSC and the Jamestown mall to give some away. I sure wish they would invent some kind of birth control for cats that could be put in their food. All of our barn cats are healthy. I don't think any of them have been infected with any disease. I've never seen any sick ones. And what's up with the coyotes? We have plenty of them around and still we don't seem to be missing any cats. I thought that coyotes were suppose to kill cats (I know that sounds terrible) but I was kind of counting on that for cat control but no such luck. Well, at least we have no mice, rats, rabbits or squirrels around our place. I bet there isn't a rodent within a mile of our house. Oh well, guess we'll just have to keep feeding them, at least as long as I am working and able to Reply...
Pets, gotta admit............I am flattered that you would ask me - since we have butted our stubborn heads time and again!!!!!!! All I can tell you is what we have done through the past years - through experience. We always have a surplus of cats and kittens in the summer, and feeding them does get spendy and we don't have the heart to go blasting away with a gun (a lot of our neighbors do this and think nothing of it - it's the way of rural life, they throw them in the feilds after the deed is done, and the circle of life continues - according to them). Every year I ask around to the neighbors if they need cats, mouse and rodent control is big up here - and every year we can usually find homes for some of the cats and kittens that way. If we still have some to give away, I print up colored fliers and tack them up at feed stores, K-mart, Wal-mart or any store in the surrounding area that will let me post them, I try to add pictures if I have the time. We had one family call last summer, who said they would take all the cats and kittens we had ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,when I got over my shock, I asked them "Are you going to feed them to snakes that you have?" (Someone told me to be leary of people calling and wanting a lot of kittens and cats - because they use them as snake food) Nope they said, they just had a horrible mouse problem. I delivered the cats and they seemed to be more than happy to get them. Mother Nature takes a lot of others, rural life is not easy on cats, as I am sure you are more than aware - cats disappear - never to be seen again - maybe blasted by the neighbor who wants to protect the pheasants for hunting season, maybe nabbed by a fox or coyote or hit by a car, maybe some move on to greener pastures at the neighbors (we have had missing cats show up months later, in good health) I've been there, actually, I'm there now! Some of our neighbors are having a family reunion over the 4th of July, and they know that some of the people coming want kittens, so maybe we can find homes then. If you are like me, you feel the need to almost "prescreen" prospective cat and kitten adopters - but I can't control what happens to the cats or kittens when they leave me, I can only hope for the best , and that is what I do when they leave our farm. Pets, I still think you and I would have a hoot traveling down south together!!!!!!!!!! You remind me of a dear friend of mine, OMG, she is a STAUNCH dem, when I say STAUNCH, I mean die hard. We love each other - but we don't go into politics or the way the country is headed - - - -nothing! But we just love each other to bits!!! (did I mention she is an animal lover.................. ) Good luck with the kitties! Reply...
Don't keep females. Just keep the males, get them fixed. No babies.
You are responsible. I know it doesn't seem fair, but you need to not keep the females. Give them away, or abort. Reply...
Sneaky, I agree, we could probably be great friends if it weren't for the politics. That being said, I would like to ask you something. You have barn cats, you said. So do we, and they are multiplying at an alarming rate. The first two barn cats we had weren't really ours to start with, they were our neighbors cats. Two females. They came to our barn a couple of years ago and had kittens. If they would have been ours to start with, we would have gotten them fixed. (We have 4 house cats that are neutered and spayed) Anyway, here we are now with umteen cats and the numbers are growing by the day. We buy two 40 pound bags of cat food a week to feed them all. What would you suggest we do about all the cats? We don't have the heart to kill any of them, and we don't have the heart not to feed them. We keep two heat lamps in the barn for them in the winter so they won't freeze. But, I don't know how long we can keep feeding and taking care of all the cats. Do you know of any vet that would neuter and spay a bunch of cats at a discount ? Do you think anyone would do that? Anyone - - -any suggestions? Reply...
One thing Petsr4ever and I can agree on, it is that animals should be treated with the utmost care, love and respect. Pets, if you and I met and we didn;t know who we were on this forum and didn't talk politics, I know we would be good friends. Glad you got your dogs Theresa! Good for you for saving the poor things! As far as shots go, we have had a viral thing running through our barn cats, (non - fatal and not distemper) and we have discussed it with our vet and asked if we could get the vaccine and bring it home and give the shots ourselves, instead of taking umpteen cats into Minot - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -no way said the vet. For some reason, it is different for horses, my husband has gotten shots (pre-loaded syringes) from the vet, brings them home and gives the shot himself, but with those, you have to be careful and know exactly where to inject, inject in the wrong place, and it can be fatal to the horse ( or yourself if the horse moves and you inject yourself ) Home of Economy and TSC carry dog and cat wormer and some other stuff, but I don't know about vaccines, etc. For your own peace of mind I would recommend a vet. Enjoy your new babies! Reply...
