Rain Drenches Peace Garden Again

Connie Lagerquist was a little concerned about what she would see when she made her way to the International Peace Garden today.

As the head horticulturist at the garden, Lagerquist has been fighting

downpour after downpour this summer trying to bring the familiar colors back to the Peace Garden.

Her rain gauge showed over two-and-a-half inches of rain fell last night and it made work here impossible today and probably tomorrow as well.

When she did see the grounds, here is what she said...

(Connie Lagerquist - IPG Horticulturist) "Oh boy! Here we go again...or still! We are wet again. Most of the water isn't standing like before and we aren't flooded from the sunken garden to the flower bed but we have certain areas that are underwater and it did put a damper on my plans for today."

Those plans called on about two dozen volunteers planting flowers here and at other parts of the Gardens in preparation

for the 75th celebration set for this weekend.

The big birthday party is still on for Saturday and we'll have more on the preparations for the weekend later this week on KX News. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
