A lot of time people take people in certain ethnic groups for granted. We have a guy coming up for re-election who does that on a daily basis. Earl Pomeroy (in 2006) told the good people of Grand Forks that he is in supprot of the Fighting Sioux name. OK, he has an opinion just like I do and I can accept that. He then refuses to take a stand and starts playing up to the Native Americans.
As a Native American, I do not like it when people like Pomeroy act like we are to dumb to notice the double talk. I do not like it when he automatically assumes that we will vote for him. I see the headlines and stories/blogs where everyone thinks the Native vote is in the bag.
Newsflash to Pomeroy: We like cheap gas too. We like low taxes too. We like to save money for family activities too. We aren't a little category that you can assume will always follow you and your double talk.
My tribe is Oregon, but I live here now and love it. I don't like people who take advantage of others when they are down. Pomeroy took lots of money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, when people across this state suffered.
Yes Earl, Native Americans have 401K's as well.
This is one Native American who will not vote for Earl Pomeroy. Reply...

I took time out tonight to see what the bismarck community had to say about native americans....and the funny thing is that it is the same as in urban communities i have lived in. I am an enrolled indian from here in north dakota but i have never lived here til a couple of years ago and i am called white because i can "make the talk" and "can pass" with non-indians. It doesnt bother me as it shouldnt bother others because if you think about it...we(i mean all of us!) as a people will tolerate, care for and understand people who are handicapped or helpless in some way. Ignorance is a handicap and unfortunately it can hit any of us at any time, myself included. But i have come to the realization that there are really only two major types of people in the world.....the intelligent and the not intelligent. The people running the major powers on this planet are or were intelligent enough to get the position werent they? So it goes for Fortune 500 companies as it just keeps trickling on down through the ranks of classes. Really, race is merely a group of people with similar traits its only our location that is different. We all are born covered in our mother's blood. I am not going to speak against the native community but i will say something that should be helpful. "The only real power in any situation is KNOWLEDGE." Yes, I know what the Dawes Act says. And i know why reservations were implemented. Anyone who knows the history of the birth this nation should have read about what was done with the prior inhabitants. BUT NO ONE TOLD ME THIS I HAD TO FIND IT ON MY OWN. AND I WAS 31 WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THESE THINGS. But i learned in the 1st grade what the constitution was and later i learned what liabilty meant. MORE KNOWLEDGE should be sought after by anyone who feels they are mistreated, neglected or disassociated. Arguing about color or treatment after all is just simply ARGUING. Everyone on this planet has been slighted in some sort of fashion regardless of class, pigment, heritage, intelligence and wealth. We all should be teaching our children a more educated way of looking at life and living. Hate is a knowledge that is taught, love is a knowledge that is taught along with anyother abstract that is looked at. I have been looked at funny here in Bismarck and felt racism but hello...what is said here is really no different from anywhere else. Placing blame on others only brings blame back on oneself for lack of knowledge....please all my brothers and sisters of our heavenly creator....think of that...... Reply...
Anita was an amazing person, and although the police haven't solved her murder yet, i dont believe that its because they are not trying. Anita was my best friend, so trust me i want the case solved as much if not more than anyone else. I cant wait til the day the person who did this is put in jail and has to pay for what he has done. I know that police may not have a lot of experience in these kinda situations but i think that they are at least making an effort now. I think there biggest mistake in the whole case was that they didn't keep the people informed very well. There were months and months where i had to sit and just wonder if they were getting anywhere with the case, and if the police were smart they would have kept us informed throughtout the whole thing. As far as the whole evidence in bismarck... yea that is driving me crazy. WTF could be more important than solving a murder that they haven't run the evidence already. It irritates me at the thought that other cases are being considered more important and being solved before hers. What because she is dead it doesn't matter how long it takes to put the guy behind bars.. BULLS***!!!!!! I think the police need to get the evidence processed and get going somewhere on the case. If people commit crimes (traffic violations, DUI, etc.) they are expected to pay their fines.
BUT, does the City of Minot use these fine payments funds as a cash cow?
Some cities do. They give every imaginable traffic ticket to raise money for the city coffers.
Is the city not pleased with the judge because he is too lenient on the payment of fines or is the city not collecting on its "cash cow" of revenue from traffic violations and offences? Reply...
