Dru Sjodin's Boyfriend Recounts Cell Phone Conversation

It was a normal phone call for the most part, but little did Chris Lang know it was the last time he would talk to his girlfriend, Dru Sjodin.

Lang took the stand today in Fargo on the second day of the murder trial against Alfonso Rodriguez, Junior.

Rodriguez is accused of kidnapping the 22-year old Sjodin from a Grand Forks mall parking lot, and killing her.

Mike Morken of KXJB in Fargo has the latest on today's court proceedings...

In federal court, Chris Lang told jurors how he was busy moving into a new apartment building in Minneapolis the afternoon of November 23rd, 2003, the day that Dru Sjodin disappeared.

The two were talking by cell phone as she left the Columbia mall. Lang said Dru was in the middle of telling him how she got a great deal on a purse at Marshall Field's, when he hears her say something and the call was lost.

Lang says at the time he didn't have a sense of urgency. He tried to call her several times but there was no answer. It was later that evening that Lang says he received another call from Dru's cell phone. He says he could only hear wind and static and a few tones, like someone pressing buttons.

The call's signal was traced to a tower near Crookston. Lang says a couple hours later, police were contacted. Sjodin's body was not found until the following April four miles from Rodriguez's home in Crookston. The phone was found nearby.

Rodriguez's attorney, Robert Hoy had no questions to ask of Lang.

In just the first two days of the trial, 16 witnesses have taken the stand, including 11 today. watch the video | save this article / add to your favorites list
