Allen teams up with foundation to 'sack diabetes'

Eds: APNewsNow.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen is looking to sack more than quarterbacks this season.

Allen has teamed up with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to launch an initiative called "Sack Diabetes." Allen will donate $3,000 for every sack he records to the local JDRF chapter in the city he plays.

That means the Minnesota chapter will get $3,000 for every sack he records in a home game this season. Allen led the league in sacks last year with 15 1/2 despite missing two games because of a suspension.

He was first made aware of the problem of juvenile diabetes while playing for Kansas City in 2004. It was there that he read a Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising letter and has been a supporter of the cause ever since.

Posted by randeg11 on Sep 7 2008 12:15PM - It is good to have a supporter like Jared Allen as not only will he raise the issue of diabetes but also the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will financially benefit in its effort to raise funds for diabetes research. Now Jared will donate $3000 for every quarterback he sacks, whatever that means.
