Associated Press MLB-LATEST SCORES Pirates turn back the clock...So do the Giants UNDATED (AP) The Pittsburgh Pirates turned back the clock nearly 50 years tonight. Jose Bautista and Ryan Doumit homered and the Pirates beat the New York Yankees 12-5 for their first victory against them since Bill Mazeroski's home run won the 1960 World Series. The Pirates had been the only team in the majors to not beat the Yankees in a regular-season game. They had been outscored 49-to-19 while going 0-and-6 against them in 2005 and 2007. This was the Yankees' first regular-season game in Pittsburgh since they lost the World Series that fateful day in October of 1960. Perhaps to give the Pirates some good karma, Hall of Famer Mazeroski threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Pirates took it from there, rapping out 19 hits, including nine for extra bases. In other interleague action: In another turn-back-the-clock game, San Francisco edged Cleveland 3-2 in the first game between the clubs in Cleveland since the Giants swept the 1954 World Series. Jonathan Sanchez won for the fifth time in six starts. Toronto enjoyed a 14-1 laugher over Cincinnati. Scott Rolen, Alex Rios and Gregg Zaun homered for the Blue Jays, who battered Bronson Arroyo for 10 runs in an inning-plus. A.J. Burnett hurled eight strong innings for the win. In another one-sided contest, last-place Seattle embarrassed the New York Mets 11-0. It was too much for interim Mets manager Jerry Manuel. He got tossed in the fourth inning of his second home game as manager. Raul Ibanez (rah-OOL' ih-BAHN'-yehz) homered and drove in three runs. Brian Barton, Skip Schumaker and Brendan Ryan each drove in two runs in the St. Louis Cardinals' 8-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. Braden Looper improved to 9-and-5. The L.A. Angels jumped on Washington with six runs in the first inning and beat the Nationals 8-3. The Angels have won five straight games and 10 of their last 11 on the road. Mike Napoli (NAHP'-uh-lee) had a two-run home run. Jason Varitek capped a four-run eighth inning with a go-ahead single and the Boston Red Sox nipped the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4. Dioner Navarro and Eric Hinske drew bases-loaded walks in the eighth inning and Evan Longoria hit a two-run double in the ninth and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Florida Marlins 6-4. Troy Percival earned his 342nd career save, moving ahead of Rollie Fingers for ninth on the all-time list. In the lone National League game, Milwaukee shaded the Atlanta Braves 4-3. Dave Bush earned his first road victory of the season, scattering four hits over seven innings. He's 4-and-7. The Brewers have won four in a row. MLB-OFF THE FIELD Indians add a pair of veterans...Nats' Johnson out for year UNDATED (AP) The Cleveland Indians have signed veteran infielder Tony Graffanino (graf-ah-NEE'-noh) and pitcher Juan Rincon (rihn-KOHN') to minor league contracts. Both are expected to report to Triple-A Buffalo. In other baseball news: Oft-injured Washington first baseman Nick Johnson is out for the year following surgery to repair a torn ligament on his wrist. Johnson missed all of last season recovering from a broken leg suffered late in the 2006 season. Boston first baseman Kevin Youkilis has been sent to an eye specialist after getting hit in the face by a one-hop throw in practice last night. Boston manager Terry Francona said he hopes Youkilis will be back in the lineup Wednesday. Houston second baseman Kaz Matsui (mat-SOO'-ee) has been placed on the 15-day DL because of a strained right hamstring suffered on Sunday. After missing 50 games with a herniated disk in his back, Florida left fielder Josh Willingham made his long-awaited return to the Marlins' lineup for the start of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. He went 1-for-5 in the Marlins' 6-4 loss, but made a diving catch to end the ninth. CWS-GAME 2 Fresno State leading Georgia 15-10 after trailing 5-0 OMAHA, Neb. (AP) It's been a wild Game 2 of the College World Series final. Georgia raced out to an early 5-0 lead only to have Fresno State score six in the third and five more in the fourth to take an 11-6 lead. Fresno is now leading 15-10 in the seventh inning. Fresno State needs to win tonight to force a decisive Game 3 tomorrow night at Rosenblatt Stadium. Golf-WOODS Doctors optimistic after second surgery in 10 weeks UNDATED (AP) Tiger Woods has undergone reconstructive surgery on his left knee to repair a torn ligament. Doctors say it's "highly unlikely" there will be any long-term effects. This was the second time in 10 weeks that Woods had surgery on his knee, this time on his anterior cruciate ligament. In a statement issued by Woods' management company, Doctor Thomas D. Rosenberg said he's pleased with the results and that with proper rehabilitation, there shouldn't be any long-term effects in relation to Woods' career. Fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko (dah-vih-DENK'-oh) made another early exit from the year's third Grand Slam, losing 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to 116th-ranked Benjamin Becker of Germany. It marks the fifth time in seven tries the 27-year-old Russian has failed to make it out of the first round at Wimbledon. Three past women's winners advanced to the second round on the second day of play in Southwest London. Defending champion and seventh seed Venus Williams started slowly before dispatching 197th-ranked Naomi Cavaday of Britain 7-6, 6-1. NHL-OFF THE ICE Melrose has a new place in the Hockey hierarchy...Ducks owner suspended UNDATED (AP) After spending the last 12 years as a hockey analyst on television, Barry Melrose is returning to the NHL. He's been named coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Melrose replaces John Tortorella, who was fired June 3rd, four years after leading Tampa Bay to its only Stanley Cup championship. The Lightning missed the playoffs this spring for the first time since 2002, finishing with the league's worst record. Melrose coached Los Angeles from 1992 to 1995. He helped the Wayne Gretzky-led Kings to the Stanley Cup finals in his first season. In other NHL news: Anaheim Ducks owner Henry Samueli is suspended indefinitely by the NHL. Samueli is to be sentenced August 18th. Forward Kyle Wellwood and goalie Andrew Raycroft have been placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Wellwood had 21 points and a minus-12 rating in 59 games last season. Raycroft appeared in only 19 games last season after losing his starting job to Vesa Toskala (VEH'-suh TAHZ'-kuh-luh). The Leafs also informed forward Darcy Tucker they plan to buy out the remaining three years of his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent. NFL-RAIDERS/WALKER Police arrest suspect in Walker robbery LAS VEGAS (AP) Las Vegas police say they've made an arrest in the robbery and beating case involving NFL player Javon Walker. Lieutenant Clint Nichols says Arfat Fadel of Las Vegas has been charged with multiple felonies including kidnapping and robbery and police are looking for a second suspect. He says Walker got into a vehicle with the two men on June 16th before he was found beaten and unconscious on a side street near the Las Vegas Strip. Walker suffered a moderate concussion and significant facial injuries. He told police the robbers took $3,000 in cash and about $100,000 in jewelry.
