Elizabeth Edwards Calls Ann Coulter

I’m sure most of you have heard the story by now.  I’m a bit behind the curve on this one, but here’s the video:

Here’s the best reaction to the back-and-forth I’ve read yet from Bart Hinkle at the Richmond Times Dispatch:

In case you had any lingering doubts about Ann Coulter’s approach to politics, watch this video. Elizabeth Edwards asks Coulter to stop making vicious personal attacks and debate the issues instead. Coulter’s response: “The wife of a presidential candidate is asking me to stop speaking.” Uh, no. That’s precisely not what Edwards said. The wife of a presidential candidate asked Coulter to speak about issues

Coulter could have responded that she does just what Al Franken, Steven Colbert, and plenty of other entertainers do: Use humor to raise questions about the behavior of people in power. Asking why John Edwards has charged $50,000 a pop for speeches is a legitimate question. But Coulter isn’t interested in actually debating opponents. She just wants to put words in their mouths and then ridicule them for what they didn’t say.

My sentiments exactly

Posted by Dee on Jun 27 2007 11:51AM - Coulter just wants attention:

"look at me!", Look at me!"

Posted by Matt S on Jun 27 2007 11:52AM - Coulter said she wished that John Edwards died in a terrorist attack. That is not simply using humor to raise questions about behavior.

Posted by JD on Jun 27 2007 11:57AM - Congratulations to the mainstream media for reporting half of a story in order to manipulate public opinion yet again. The original "issue" was that Bill Maher said that it would have been better if Dick Cheney had been killed by terrorists. She retaliated by saying that you might as well say the same about John Edwards. Elizabeth Edwards conveniently forgot the context and lashed out at Coulter for her "attack". Coulter responded to this obvious distortion by sidestepping Edwards' specific words and getting to the crux of the matter: Attempts to force her to debate only within liberal-controlled context are indeed attempts to silence her. In this light, this whole story looks very different, doesn't it?

Posted by Jewel on Jun 27 2007 11:59AM - Elizabeth always claims to take the high road but did not hesitate to call in & try to embarrass Coulter. I do not care for either women as they are both loud mouth opinionated women that use their personalities to try to get their way. I live an hour from the Edwards but should he win the only bonus is they will move out of North Carolina.
Ladies do not pick fights & that is what Ms. Edwards was trying to do.

Posted by Deborah on Jun 27 2007 12:00PM - I asked my local newspaper to stop publishing Coulter's columns. I plan to expand my campaign. I'm sick of her nastiness. How does she get away with the things she says, but others lose their jobs?

Posted by Don on Jun 27 2007 12:01PM - Sure it is ok for John Edwards to bring up personal attacks against his oponents, but when it is done to him, it is construed as hate speach and personal attacks. Is this how he and his wife are going to respond to Bashar al-Assad? or Al-Qaeda?

Posted by GERARD on Jun 27 2007 12:05PM - May God have mercy on her soul

Posted by Jeff Tuttle on Jun 27 2007 12:05PM - Mrs. Edwards showed how class trumps the politics of hate. Ms. Coulter seemed only to be able to react like a child in the school yard trying to turn the name calling back rather than address the issue. Incidentally, I just wonder how much she charges for her speeches and I have a pretty good idea of the kind of money she is making selling books of divisiveness and derision.

Posted by Ex-Fan of Ann on Jun 27 2007 12:06PM - Yeah, Ann jumped the shark a while ago. I used to think she was funny, but now it is just the same crap over and over.

Actually, she didn't jump the shark, she just doesn't have the entertainment versatility to maintain interest over time. Sigh.

Posted by Jim on Jun 27 2007 12:06PM - This coming from the Left who have compared Bush to Hitler? Hmm let me think about Ann's response. I think she is fighting fire with fire and the Left can handle a taste of its own medicine. If the Edwards really were concerned about what is in the best interest of thier family would they put thier children through this circus while thier mother is dying of cancer? I think not.

And as for the media commenting... well the left has long controlled the message and tone of the so called news with little regard for the facts anymore. Long and gone is doble checking facts and getting support. Instead they interject thier political opion in most everything which is produced to promote thier agenda. Now there's a meaningful dialogue on the issues...

Good for Ann.

Posted by Abo on Jun 27 2007 12:10PM - Coulter's hatred is giving her sort of an embalmed look.

Posted by Abo on Jun 27 2007 12:12PM - Coulter's hatred is giving her sort of an embalmed look.

Posted by Jes on Jun 27 2007 12:12PM - I don't see a problem with Ann. She rocks!

Posted by Patriot Person on Jun 27 2007 12:14PM - Ann Coulter is one of the most unamerican and unpatriotic person living in United States today. Her political views are so ultra-right wing conservatives, neo con, hard core-Christians, redneck, close minded, anything comes out of her mouth is not credible or even believable.

It is really sad, she even given an opinion. She corrupts and distort the truth and reality. Her propaganda is not much different from Nazi propaganda in 1940's, only a different animal for different era.

Posted by Robert Mohr on Jun 27 2007 12:15PM - Dear "My sentiments exactly"
Unless you agree with me I want to silence you.
A commentator must be edited for any comments I don't like.
My staffers can say anything about anyone and anything but others should be edited by me.
I'm glad you have a "well" thought out sentiment.
If you don't like what someone in the media says, change the channel and don't buy their books.
You can edit what you listen to!

Posted by billybookworm on Jun 27 2007 12:16PM - Ann Coulter is the best example of how morally bankrupt the so called "conservatives" in this county have become.

Posted by Bob on Jun 27 2007 12:25PM - I love Ann Coulter more every time I get to hear her speak!!!!!!!!

Posted by cyacovelli on Jun 27 2007 12:31PM - Scathing remarks, yes. Free speech, yes. Pretty close to slander.
She has all her bases covered, doesn't she.

Very poor excuse for a human being; that best describes
Ann Coulter!

Wonder if she's used any of her blood money to do anything worthwhile. Doubt it. Maybe a few bucks on a hair cut would be nice.

Posted by DK on Jun 27 2007 12:35PM - You's be hard-pressed to find a quote of Franken, Colbert, or Stewart that approaches "I'll just wish he was assinated by a terrorist plot."

The contributor has an bizarre sense of humor.

Posted by James Padgett on Jun 27 2007 12:38PM - Ann is exactly right about John Edwards's tactics in helping people take advantage of doctors - to pad his bank account. Few things are as repulsive in American society. Edwards' wife is attempting to be "all-inclusive" - saying, in contradistinction to her husband, that she has no problem with gay marriage. She's just another politician - so why attack one?

Posted by The masked unit on Jun 27 2007 12:40PM - All I can say about Ann Coulter is "SEE yoU Next Tuesday".....if you know what I mean...

Posted by tom cruise on Jun 27 2007 1:31PM - ann coulter is a joke. she just denies the truth in everything she talks about, which makes me wonder why she has a job. calling people faggots on tv is not what professional journalists are supposed to do. even jon stewart doesn't do that, and he makes no bones about the fact that he is a fake journalist. why do conservatives let her represent them?

Posted by Rene Thompson on Jun 27 2007 1:33PM - Ann Coulter finally admitted what the problem is: She cannot debate the issues, the only means she has to communicate the Republican agenda is making comments that a sitting member of Congress should be assassinated and making fun of the death of a child.

If the GOP really think their pundits are spreading a message of family values they are in serious trouble.

Posted by David McMullen on Jun 27 2007 1:36PM - Elizabeth Edwards is correct. Ann Coulter uses sick, personal attacks as a way of making money. Recently, she spoke at the University of South Florida, attacked the faculty, and was paid for one speech more than some faculty members make in an entire year. She is a cheap fraud.

Posted by Wade Hostutler on Jun 27 2007 1:39PM - typical liberal! When they do it us Republicans are suppose to sit back and take it, its funny when we play thier game, how loudly they cry. Take a dose of your own medicine and shut your damn mouths.

Posted by Big D on Jun 27 2007 1:47PM - Ann Coulter Makes me horny baby!!! YEA!!!!!!

Posted by Mick on Jun 27 2007 2:08PM - Did you notice her body language when Edwards called her out? She has trouble dealing with responsibility and more people ought to be confronting her personally. Then maybe she'll slink back from whence she came.

Posted by NR on Jun 27 2007 2:08PM - ANN SHOULD BE ON HER BACK WITH HER LEGS IN THE AIR. THE TAXES LEVIED ON INCOME GENRATED WOULD FUND MANY SOCIAL PROGRAMS.

Posted by Roy on Jun 27 2007 2:18PM - Since she is such a "patriotic" person, please send her to Iraq to serve our troops.

Posted by Abbie on Jun 27 2007 4:21PM - Elizabeth asks for Ann not to be hateful anymore.

Ann responds as though this means she would have to stop speaking and writing entirely.

So, clearly Ann regards her own speeches and books are hate-fueled and hate-filled.

Posted by Body Bagger on Jun 27 2007 5:04PM - @JD

"The original "issue" was that Bill Maher said that it would have been better if Dick Cheney had been killed by terrorists."

So John Edwards is Bill Maher in disguise? I guess I don't get your point. Bill Maher and John Edwards are *far* apart on policy issues, but they agree that George Bush is a poor excuse for a president.

How you could confuse a liberal lawyer with a libertarian comedian is beyond me. But wait! You defend Ann Coulter! That means you've given up on rational thought!

Posted by The Black Sheep on Jun 27 2007 5:12PM - Call Ann what she is...a opportunistic, bottle blonde, with no journalistic credentials, money grubbing, big nosed, small eyed, botox sucking, baby hating, woman hating, right wing self serving woman. Aww, don't like it, too bad, as I can say anything I want. Ann said so.

Posted by a middle aged conservative doctor guy with plenty of money on Jun 27 2007 5:14PM - Interesting video/debate...Ms Edwards clearly the winner of the portion that was shown, but regardless, i get the feeling i just watched two alley cats clawing it out, and neither was a winner unless they like to publically scrutinized (maybe they were both winers?)...i do not know who was speaking the truth, but I suspect Edwards has bilked lots of individuals, but that is American law, i have both benefitted and lost from our judicial system, and I think it is pretty good compared to most alternatives...i suspect that Coulter is in serious need of some love and attention (not a one night stand, which I suspect she has a lot of to keep her from becoming vulnerable)...when someone is so insecure that they feel the need to wear sunglasses while on TV, continue to flip her hair as if she is unsure of how to appeal to the masses, it usually means she did not get the love and attention she needed growing up...i suspect she has been abused, and she has risen above it by ridiculing others...

Posted by dandakotadan on Jun 27 2007 5:16PM - I like it when a wife stands-up for her man, very sexy. What if he had pitched a *****? That would have tanked his shot at the presidency, even if it is Ann Coulter the REPUBLICAN rag-*****!

PLAN ON SEEING A LOT MORE OF THESE TYPES OF REPUBLICAN News blasts, they just don't know what to do about the elections. They are even aggreeing with what the Democrats have been saying of three + years about Iraq... Cost to much, in money and life, with nothing good to come from it, EVER!

Stay tuned the next thing will be... They came up with the idea to pull out, on a time schedule. They just hope there are enough Dumb Ass REPUBLICAN's that will buy it.
I just hope these new Democrats will keep reminding the republican what they have been saying and doing the past 4-years and more. Voters have to get it right, we need a new team in control!

Posted by Day on Jun 27 2007 7:05PM - Will someone do their patriotic duty and sleep with Ann Coulter? Clearly, she has no man. Who could live with a loud, vile, botoxed, bony hag? Other than the unverified fact that she breathes air, what qualifiactions does she have to be on TV sprewing such assinine dribble? Even my most conservative friends find her embarrassing. But then again they are educated and I'm finding that her only fans are people no education. Educated people know what a liar she is and how to debate and formulate a real quality rebuttal. She can't do either. What an embarrassment.

Posted by JohnUSA on Jun 27 2007 8:25PM - Go Ann! You R O C K ! And thanks for saying what I think! One of the reasons the thought police hate you so much is because they haven't found THE way yet to annihilate you! Those bastions and self-appointed protectors of 'diversity' you know believe what you want as long as you don't disagree with them or else. Social fascists of the lowest ilk. Go Ann!

Posted by David Waters on Jun 27 2007 8:25PM - I am a libertarian/consevative, but I don't even know where Ann Coulter is from, literally. I only heard her name for the first time about 2 years ago.

A case could be made that she's a double agent, i.e. a liberal masquerading as a professing conservative, behaving horribly, helping no one. She's an obonoxious half-wit I certainly would not keep company with.

Posted by whatthe on Jun 27 2007 8:26PM - anne coulter or what the heck ever her name is a very unpleasant person i have ever seen on tv. she needs to shut up and stop attacking people with rude comments.

Posted by pdm on Jun 27 2007 8:27PM - Are you as incensed about Bill Maher saying we would be better off if Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack? If not, you are a hypocrite. Why is it OK for Bill Maher to say these things and not Ann Coulter. And keep in mind, Ann didn't really say this about Edwards, she was making the point that no one in the liberal media had a problem with Bill Ms remarks, but try to lynch her regarding remarks she makes that are much more "civilized".

Posted by Ann is a joke on Jun 27 2007 8:33PM - Her career is over, the media is against her and the rest of the GOP and these are her last moments in the light, at least as a middle aged woman. The great political topography might again change in her favor, but it's unlikely to happen within this decade. Plus as anyone who has every actually watched her know she is nothing more than sensationalist trying desperately to get her career out of the drain.

Of course you don't have as much money as a senator's wife, you're insignificant spin artist who obviously ignored most of her education or at least acts like that on TV. It's getting her paid, better than a real job, but these trendy opportunistic endeavors are always fleeting. She is basically Howard Stern, but under the guise of a political expert and without the talent for comedy. So, just all SHOCK, no witt, no rational, just WOW did she just say that. GASP GASP.

Funny though her methods are truly those of the liberals she supposedly hates. She acts like some angry feminist college student who knows her only chance of anyone paying attention to her is either to make some shocking and vulgar statement. She is obviously quite nervous about her career as she is try to deny making statements that might reflect her in a negative light.

This is not the Ann Coulter of a few years ago who would have proudly flaunted her ignorant statements. She has be humbled.

Posted by Jackie on Jun 27 2007 8:35PM - Blah, blah, blah.....
What a bunch of crap from everyone.

hahaha wow you're the dumbest person on earth huh lol

Posted by Reality on Jun 27 2007 8:37PM - Bill Maher, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, Alec Baldwin and an endless stream of liberals can say anything they want - advocate the assasination of a VP, the murder of all Republicans, etc - and NOTHING is said in the media or elsewhere...but let a conservative say something liberals don't like, and the squealing never ends.

Hypocrisy and bigotry is VERY alive and well on the left...not to mention the strong desire to censor - indeed, deny - free speech to their opposition.

Posted by simon666 on Jun 27 2007 8:39PM - to all the ann coulter defenders,

let us not confuse the issue that ann coulter has little of value to add to any political discussion other than a self righteous sense of humor.

the fact she choose to act completely put out by mrs edwards request shows her poor grasp of a larger picture.

eh... but people like stupidity because it makes them feel smart in a way. so be it...

Posted by THX1138 on Jun 27 2007 8:41PM - its all bunk...coulter and maher are good friends actually (his admission). The whole thing about such and such dieing in a terrorist attack is just a script between the two of them for attention, which equals ratings, which equals money....................thats the story folks entertainment for prime time news stations....so you will watch the commercials that come on. its all about flashing high definition commercials at american zombies. go to work, be happy, think safety, buy more, buy more now, dont cause trouble, stop terrorists, buy more now

Posted by oksana on Jun 27 2007 8:45PM - ann's old. it's so weird that an old person would build their career on making people hate them. she's just dated all around.

Posted by carterfrancis on Jun 27 2007 8:47PM - According to Salon.com, Giuliani has earned $9.2 million in speaking fees since 2006.

enough said.

Posted by ellenandron on Jun 27 2007 8:48PM - What a vicious, nasty, degrading and cunning thing this is! This souless one thrives on nastiness and has found a way to make a buck and doesn't care what is said as long as it sells. (Some people might call that prostitution.) The only way to stop the filth that tumbles off of its pen and out of its vicious mouth is to stop buyng the books and giving it an audience. By the by, the tell on the creature is the constant rearrangement of the hair. It shows total discomfort. Maybe there is a conscience there afterall.

Posted by Bill In California on Jun 27 2007 8:51PM - This message is partly in response to JD's post. I don't think I heard Elizabeth Edwards "Lash Out" at Ms. Coulter at all her voice was in a normal speaking tone. All she did was ask her not to make callous remarks about their son who was sadly taken from them at a very young age and to refrain from making personal attacks against candidates, not just her husband. This Coulter person should be black listed by radio, television and newspaper companys. She is working at dividing our country when some of us are working hard to bring us all together. Personally When I hear hear speak or anything about her I change the station. Hear that KXMB News Director? Coulter is a tune out factor.

Posted by carterfrancis on Jun 27 2007 8:51PM - Sean Hannity's normal fee is $100,000.

Some other right-wing pundit speaking fees: Ann Coulter, $30,000; Bill O'Reilly reportedly asks for $50,000-$80,000; Rush Limbaugh was getting $25,000 an appearance back in 1991.

Posted by Mann Coulter on Jun 27 2007 8:53PM - I'm now convinced that Ann was molested by her father/grandfather/uncle. Her personal insecurity and self-loathing is palpable. She is crying out for help.

Posted by Jesse on Jun 27 2007 8:54PM - I don't know, it seems Ann is held to a double standard. Elitists like Edwards and his wife want to play on sympathy and politisize their tragedy, "she" called Ann and was bringing up things in the distant past. Both sides, democrat and republican are guilty of the same type of speech. No one says much about the Al Franken's and Bill Maher because we expect that out of them and accept it as satire, but let Ann open her mouth and boom they come out of everywhere to ridicule and attack her and paint her as the wicked witch of the right.....come on.

Posted by Jim on Jun 27 2007 8:55PM -

Posted by birdlives on Jun 27 2007 8:56PM - To those who like Ann Coulter I truly feel sorry for you. To watch someone who makes money with hatred and stupidity is to mourn
for the approaching death of our our country. I served in the US Army and spent 19 months in Korea. I believed in my country but it becomes more and more difficult to do so. To those who would say that she is entitled to her speech., I agree. To those like her who HATE liberals
and /or anyone who would question what is wrong with this country and think that Ann is worth listening to I can only say "There are none so blind as those who can see but will not."

Posted by Amber Watkins on Jun 27 2007 8:58PM - Ann Coulter is the new Rush Limbaugh we HATE HER IN OUR HOUSE.

Posted by Ed on Jun 27 2007 9:00PM - Last time I looked this was still America, and the 1st amendment applied to everyone. I guess we are only entitled to an opinion if it dosen't conflict with the Democrats views.
Don't like what someone is saying on TV or radio, change the channel. No one is forcing you to listen.

Posted by maggie mae on Jun 27 2007 9:01PM - Ann Coulter first suggests that Timothy McVeigh should have considered blowing up the New York Times, that the NYT executive editor should be executed, and this week, according to published reports, Coulter says she sent fake Anthrax to the New York Times (they received an envelope with white powder last week).

Did Coulter send the fake Anthrax? She says she did.

Posted by Dean on Jun 27 2007 9:04PM - I find it hilarious that Al Franken and Michael Moore have their "political" books in the humor section. That's because they'd be sued if they didn't claim what they did were parody.

No guts. ;-)

Posted by ann coulter on Jun 27 2007 9:05PM - ann coulter has a huge adam's apple and wears a scarf around her neck a lot. hmmmm

Posted by Jeff on Jun 27 2007 9:07PM - The reality is that Hardball invited Coulter on their show and bushwhacked her. They are so desperate for ratings that they have stooped to the level of Jerry Springer. The left-wing media goes out of their way to hold Conservatives to a higher standard, but some how believe they and their friends on the left deserve a pass.

Posted by rojeliorocker on Jun 27 2007 9:07PM - I'm one of the majority of republicans who can't stand Ann Coulter and wish she would go away. Sad that Chris Matthews uses up a hour of prime-time programming interviewing her rather than doing something worthwhile with his time. Like Pat Robertson, she is an embarrassment to conservative causes.

'nuff said.

Posted by johnny sasquatch on Jun 27 2007 9:10PM - What's so tiresome about Ann Coulter is that there, unfortunately, is more Ann Coulter's out there only with different names. Even if she went away there would still be Rush, Michael Savage, Cheney and more. This hate-thought that is seemingly everywhere in America these days is very similar to the Cold War paranoia of the 1950's. The big difference is that people are much more vocal and brazen today than then. As a comparison, Bush does have many similarities to Hitler. Concentration of power. Labeling a ethnic group as a singular threat to our national existance. Creating an Us v. Them mentality. The questioning of patriotism. Over 500,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. 100,000 American servicemen are permanently physically and mentally damaged. It's a sad, sad day in America. I only hope and pray that time will put Bush in his rightful place as not only the worst President of all-time, but also the most distructive figure of U.S. History. Bush has blinded himself by thinking that he could will his influence. A tempermental and entitled little sh** who was born into a family with enough power to push him to the highest office in our nation. Another comparison between America today and Germany of the 20's-40's is the inexplicable amount of otherwise normal looking citizen's who lost touch with common human reality. And don't even get me started about the economic stupidity of the whole situation....the human catastrophe is quite enough. History will judge us.

Posted by maura on Jun 27 2007 9:11PM - Unbelievable!!!! The upcoming Presidential race is a joke....I haven't found one candidate that truly speaks for the American Public. The politicians are all out for themselves and this verbal jousting Mrs. Edwards had with Ann Coulter proves it! When will our politicians from all parties start listening to the American Public?

Posted by Nope on Jun 27 2007 9:13PM - Hmmm....I don't and haven't seen ANY leftists denouncing Maher. Oh, but wait, that's OK because he parallels your value system, huh? And to the liberals who scream about civil liberties while they're simultaneously telling you to "put down that cigarette, and give me your guns, and by the way, you can't cook food with that trans-fat..." lol lol lol lol lol

Screw you.

Posted by johnny on Jun 27 2007 9:13PM - The boney witch THRIVES on attention, positive or negative, it doesn't matter. The best thing you can do is to ignore her.

Posted by Laura on Jun 27 2007 9:14PM - Now, I am all for free speech. Ann can say whatever she wants and if I disagree, I will still defend her right to say it - including wishing death upom a person. Unless she is physically threatening violence and murder, she still has the right to say it. I throughly disagree with her 100%, but I am not going to be the liberal to tell her no...it wouldnt make me very liberal to take away her freedom of speech.

Posted by Timmy on Jun 27 2007 9:14PM - So it's not a problem that Bush is called a monkey yet it's wrong for Ann to call people names. <- why do you think people can see the liberal bias in the media.

Posted by sam on Jun 27 2007 9:15PM - Bill Maher is not much different from Ann Coulter in that both use extreme positions to dramatize their points. Both are outrageous. Both are entertainers who have taken the Don Rickles approach to humor to the highest level of ridiculousness. I recall being embarassed and being put off by Don Rickles ridiculing members of the audience to get laughs. This whole episode is clearly designed to get us to watch, get offended and take sides...Your a liberal/I'm a Republican...No, I'm a Democrat/Your a neanderthal. After all, negative attention is better than no attention at all. Where's Edwards in the polls? How are Ann's books selling? And Bill? What were the issues again?

However, the fact is, anyone that supports this hag or the conservative controlled media as whole, can go down in the same plane alongside all the other useless republicans.

Republicans need to eat a bullet.

Posted by edm on Jun 27 2007 9:20PM - I am not critical of most of the outrageous statements made by public figures. Really, shouldn't we all be mature enough to simply pick and choose? There is no reason to get so worked up about money issues with an obviously poverty-stricken - what is she? A comedian? I forget. Don't think she's very funny. She lost any claim (to me) of anything but trash talk when she prodded parents on the most open, painful wound they can suffer - the death of their son. All other subjects are fair game; in this one Ann Coulter stepped way over the line, clearly doing one more huge injury to her beleaguered Republican Party. Jerry Springer probably could use a sub now and then.

this article twists his meaning to their agenda, and i see many conservatives on here will not think objectively, but it still proves my point, which is that maher did not say that dick cheney should be attacked, he simply said that others should have the right to say that. and that the world would be a better place if he were dead, which is different then saying he should actually be targeted. he just wouldnt miss the guy or feel bad for him.

his statement was also not a lie, it was an opinion, yet ann coultier has made many bad jokes (she calls them jokes anyways) and remarks while sounding like she wants to be taken seriously, like calling jon edwards a fag, and the 9/11 wives heartless selfish people, and worse of course. she is speaking as if she has fact on her side when nothing she says is proven, while bill maher made an opinion, along with the fact that dick cheney not being alive today would have saved lives.

less people have died from terrorist attacks in the last 30 years before the iraq war, then have died since the iraq war started, and it looks to have no end even if we do stay.

Posted by Tom on Jun 27 2007 9:24PM - So, pdm, you ARE right, Bill Maher shouldn't have said that we would be better off if Cheney had been killed by a terrorist attack. That kind of speech, whether it comes from the right or the left corrupt political dialog in the U.S. If we leave the discussion of political differences to people like this, in the end, we could find ourselves in the same boat as the Iraqis....with assassinations of politicians by those who disagree with them and midnight raids on families of those who have expressed their opinions.
My problem with Ann Coulter is that her basic position is if you disagree with President Bush or me (Ann Coulter) then YOU ARE A TRAITOR. There are places where this IS the government policy or was - North Korea, Cuba, Burma, China, the USSR and Nazi Germany are good examples. One of many things that makes the US different is that it's recognized here that I can be a Patriot and legitmately disagree with you who are also a Patriot. Ann Coulter denies this. Whether she does it because of her beliefs or because it makes her millions is irrelevant. When Mrs. Edwards says that saying nasty things about those who disagree with you lowers the level of political debate and is therefore harmful, she is correct. Mrs. Cheney would probably agree with her. If all you are concerned with is which "side" someone is on, rather than what they say, I would suggest you need to examine your North Korean tendencies. If you and I were to suddenly find ourselves in a Baghdad alley with a group of irate Al Queda members outside, I would bet that you might be more interested in how much extra ammo I had and how good a shot I was. The American flag on the shoulder would, at that point, no longer have a "right" or "left", Republican or Democrat attached.

Stick to the issues. Shut up and get meaningful dialogue on the issues, not personal attacks.

Posted by jt on Jun 27 2007 9:26PM - We might in fact be better off if Dick Cheney were killed in a terrorist attack. Perhaps then Halliburton wouldn't get those no-bid contracts. Not being a doctor, I haven't been bilked by John Edwards, but I HAVE been bilked by Dick Cheney. We all have. For the record, Cheney *does* have deferred income and unexercised stock options in Halliburton.

But that's not the 'original issue' some of these right-wing morons are trying to point out. It is true that Bill Maher said that about Dick Cheney. It's also true (is this the original issue?) that Ms. Coulter called Edwards a 'faggot.' Aside from it being a false statement, what good does that do anyone? Nobody can really point out what the 'original' issue is at this point. It may not be the original issue, but I think the most important one is that Mrs. Edwards is right in pointing out that Ann Coulter does basically nothing to further political discourse in this country. I support her right to say whatever the hell she wants, but no one can convince me she's anything more than an idiot. People who like her are also idiots.

"...Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack. So I've learned my lesson. If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."
Basically, she's using actual evidence to show a double standard in the media. As many of you are proving with your comments, she's right on.

Posted by RJD on Jun 27 2007 9:41PM - Ann Coulter is obsessed with John Edwards, but ever since John turned her down for a date, she's been bitter. John doesn't want to admit an attraction to her out of fear that he'll be accused of being a "faggot."

I love John Edwards, but Ann is more of a man than he'll ever be. Simply put, Ann is the man! She's a big boney b*tch with a manly build. Mann Coulter is single because no guy wants to court her out out of fear that his sexuality will be questioned.

What's really making her the miserable old maid that we know and can't stand is that she can't find what she's looking for: a woman with "chubby legs." Even though some of the 9/11 widows are available now for dating, they're looking for someone with less testosterone and a smaller p*nis.

Posted by Ally on Jun 27 2007 9:42PM - Before you people comment on Ann, why don't you listen to the GMA interview that prompted Mrs. Edwards to call?!? http://www.breitbart.tv/html/2258.html Ann didn't say that she wished John Edwards would've been killed in a terrorist attack. She was making a comparison between how she was treated for the John Edward/gay comment (not in good taste, but still not bad enough to be in the news for weeks) vs. Bill Maher's comment regarding wishing Dick Cheney dead in a terrorist attack (it was reported then quickly went away). It doesn't matter how egregious a statement you make about a Republican, the media will just gloss over it, but God forbid you should say something remotely negative about a Democrat.

You'd think we would have all learned by now that you can't rely on one source for knowledge. As others have mentioned, Ann Coulter's comments were obviously taken completely out of context. Mrs. Edwards attempt to salvage her husband's presidential campaign will ultimately prove futile. You can't completely blame Ann Coulter's retort as she was caught a bit off guard by such ridiculous remarks. Most proper people from the South won't go on national television with the intentions of embarrassing someone by spreading false propaganda. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

We suck up the latest lies, clean up the world by making rubble out of ancient cities, destroy cultures in order to instill a respect for democracy and freedom and claim victory to mental midgets cheering on their leaders from across their $5:00 pizza and sale-of-the-week beer. I just wish you did not have a cult of followers who don't really get it either. "Liberals" are not the thought police as some would have us believe, and please stop using the word "liberal" so loosely. To be liberal is to be open-minded and accepting, it is not some label for people with whom Ann Coulter and other pseudo-pundits disagree. Ann Coulter is a Christian? Jesus himself must be horrified by her behavior. She continues to talk about "the elite." Hello! Ann Coulter is the elite, my fellow Americans. She went to Cornell and is from a very wealthy part of CT. I suppose, we all believe that George Bush is common folk, too. I wish I had half the silver from the spoons these two have crammed in their mouths.

Now I am free to see things clearly, and conservative republican ideals are the best for our nation/future generations.

But here's the thing: I just don't get Ann Coulter. She is certainly not a good example as to how most conservatives should act. And I hear that she calls herself a Christian? I don't know if that's true, but she is certainly not acting like Jesus Christ in this video. More like a cornered cat or a dancing puppet. The comment above that pondered whether she was a liberal democrat PRETENDING to be conservative Republican, who ACTS like an immature, obnoxious protagonist... really makes a lot of sense.

She is not doing any GOOD for anyone, with all of her offensive remarks, despite how much some people may think they are justified.

She needed to be humiliated like this. It's good for her character. If she doesn't learn her lesson this time, it will surely repeat itself.

She has a lot of very deep-rooted personal issues, and is incapable of dealing with them in a healthy manner. Her venemous words and hate mongering is merely a desperate cry for help. If she were your daughter, you'd reach out and help her. She's a very lonely person. It's so very sad.

Posted by Independant on Jun 27 2007 10:02PM - My blood boiled while listening to the manipulative method of the left (the oh so polite Mrs Edwards) to take the high ground of ethical behavior. Ann certainly doesn't need my defense - she stays on the cutting edge of current events and articulates the hypocracy of the liberal mindset better than anyone in the media. Ann effectively uses a method (one of my favorites) called mirroring where she uses the same arguments and statements her opponents use. This drives the leftists crazy and so now they've resulted to the 'oh so polite' Mrs Edwards to help them out by using the ol Dale Carnegie method of manipulation - the same technique used to control and manipulate all the other leftists.

Posted by Matt H, Boston on Jun 27 2007 10:05PM - FYI - It's true that Ann Coulter made her "terrorist" remark after Bill Maher did. But again, even when THAT gets commented on, it's still a little misrepresented. What Maher said was, and I quote, "people wouldn't be dying needlessly" if Cheney had been killed by the terrorist attack in Afghanistan. He did NOT say that he WANTED Cheney to be killed (whether he may or may not.) While I don't necessarily condone Maher raising the idea, from which people may infer that he wants Cheney dead, it's certainly NOT the same as Ann Coulter saying that she WISHED that Edwards would be "killed in a terrorist assassination plot." Right?

He shouldn't be able to say that? Hell yes he should. As should Ann be able to say what she wants. As should Elizabeth Edwards be able to ask Ann to stop with personal attacks. A disciplined request of the woman getting attempting to get laugh lines off of her dead son,k much like her attempt to get laughs out of the families of victims of 9-11.

But for Ann, stopping hateful speech is the equivalent of having her stop talking all together. I think Ann Coulter should be allowed to blather just like Rev. Fred Phelps - I just hope the news turns to people that want to arrive at answers when they talk about something...

Posted by Steve Fearson on Jun 27 2007 10:26PM - I find Ann entertaining and she has the right to say whatever she wants to in this country.

To ask her to censor herself gives you an idea of where we'll be if you vote Edwards.

If her comments are distasteful enough, she will lose her fan base.

Edwards won't be the candidate anyway so if the public's response to his candidacy is hurting his wife he can pull out now.

It has nothing to do with left or right, but more about inciting controversy that they can write about again and again. This whole thing can be traced back to the original Bill Maher clip. What he said was reasonable, but edgy for affect. Anyone that has taken the time to look at every clip IN CONTEXT since then will see that Ann Coulter said similar things, reasonable, but edgy for affect. If you watch all the clips in context, the story is over, because it is not that interesting, however, once the media gets it, it becomes all about a fight between Edwards and Coulter. The media has a right to say what it wants under the first amendment, but as consumers, we have a right and a responsibility to think for ourselves and not accept everything that is reported as truth.

Ann isn't running for office she's selling books just like Mike Moore is selling movies. Ann tells it like it is and Liberals get all pissed off...great stuff!

Posted by Seth Asa on Jun 27 2007 10:44PM - Ann Coulter doesn't matter. Neither do Elizabeth Edwards, Al Franken, Michael Moore, Rush Limbaugh, Bill Maher, George W Bush, Paris Hilton, Dick Cheney, Hillary Clinton, Bill OReilly, or Al Gore.

AMERICANS matter. We The People matter. The above-mentioned politicians have done little, if anything, other than divide us as a people, carrying us into their little personal spats and tirades. Everyone should forget what these people say and look at what they all do... cause us to argue with ourselves.

We are nothing as a country if we aren't discussing our differences like rational adults and making comprimises to achieve the best legislation for the majority. Given the nastiness on the part of our politicians one might think it would be better if we separated into two countries.

That's not my America. My Fellow Americans care for one another and try to help one another through difficult times. My Fellow Americans support their warriors, whether or not they support the war in which they fight. My Fellow Americans, like the vigilant Founding Fathers that came before them, prove their Patriotism by actively questioning the decisions of the officials who claim to represent them. We do not prove our patriotism by the party lines we walk. Power corrupts.

How can we promote unity government in other nations if We can not find unity?

LIBERALS: If you're so liberal, why can't you empathize with the other side? The future is an ALL OF US issue. That includes the Religious Right (who are Your Fellow Americans) and the NeoCons (who are also Your Fellow Americans).

CONSERVATIVES: Time to try to conserve the good will of the world and Your Fellow Americans by backing down on the 'anyone-who-doesn't-agree-is-a-terrorist-sympathizer' rap. We all want the same things here. Security, Health, Opportunity, and Justice. We will not find any of the above if we don't work together to find compromises that benefit the overall, diverse populace of This Great Nation.

ALL: Both parties have lost their way and in doing so have become outmoded. Serving in public office to represent Your Fellow Americans is a privilege. It's time for all to stop thinking of politics as a reality gameshow or a battle. "A nation divided... cannot stand." As long as both sides continue to press 'do-it-my-way-only' scenarios, we will continue to accomplish little for the good of the country.

There is a war within this country and it is not fought on party lines. This war isn't about black vs white, left vs. right, poor vs. rich, or old vs. young. This war is about those who are positive and those who are negative. Ann Coulter and those of her ilk are negative and we cannot let them distract us from the real issues.

Ann Coulter doesn't matter and Americans should stop taking cues from opinionists. Search for the facts about your officials in the transcripts of their sessions. Forget about Ann, Rush, Al, Bill, George, Michael, Karl, and all the other talking heads in America. They don't matter. WE matter more than they ever will... because, ultimately, WE determine their fate and in doing so, determine our own. Otherwise, the vote of the almighty dollar will always count more than that of the American citizen.

Posted by Sean on Jun 27 2007 10:51PM - "typical liberal! When they do it us Republicans are suppose to sit back and take it, its funny when we play thier game, how loudly they cry. Take a dose of your own medicine and shut your damn mouths."

Heck Yeah! I couldn't agree more. As a matter of fact here is some coulter wisdom we cal all live by:

“We need to be less concerned about civilian casualties…we bombed more people in Hamburg in two days … I’d rather have their civilians die than our civilians… we should kill their people.”

Yeah! Take that you stupid Iraqi people! Take your own medicine! Everyone knows all of you caused 9/11!! Yet, I openly wonder why liberals would ever compare Bush to Hitler? Can't they see our compassion? We care- about number one, right amigos?!

Posted by James on Jun 27 2007 11:07PM - GOOD FOR ANN!!

Posted by John Gardner on Jun 27 2007 11:07PM - Let's leave out the name-calling, the obnoxious comments about appearance, and let's stick to the facts.

I hold no brief for anyone whose idea of arguing is to call someone else names. I didn't like it when Al Franken's book came out titled "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot." I didn't like it when Michael Moore took a few "artistic licenses" with the truth in "Bowling for Columbine" (and still got an Oscar for "best documentary"!)

And I don't like it when Ann Coulter spews her venom about "liberals," which seems to have expanded to "anyone who disagrees with her." H. G. Wells once said that "the person who raises a fist is the person who has run out of ideas." Some of these pundits have resorted to this in a verbal sense, and I believe that Wells' statement holds true for them as well.

Posted by Middle America on Jun 27 2007 11:18PM - Ann Coulter is not the problem. All she wants is to be on television. She's desperate for fame. If this weren't true she would focus more on arguing legitimate facts instead of making incendiary statements. She's easily dismissed as irrelevant. The real problem is that the white house is owned by corporate America. The white house is owned by the oil companies. It no longer belongs to the American public. The war is a Haliburton war. This war is a holdover from George Bush Sr's administration. Cheney and Wolfowitz planned on attacking Iraq long before Bush was in office. Bush is another problem. He's either not intelligent enough to understand or he simply just doesn't want to understand the complex geopolitical consequences of a war in a part of the world where war has always existed. Ann Coulter can spew trash all day. She should be ignored. If they ignored her she would simply dry up and go away. We need to focus on reigning in the power and bringing it back into the hands of the American public. All else is inconsequential.

Posted by Al Franken on Jun 27 2007 11:38PM - Good God, you liberals are a whiny bunch. Ann was sandbagged and I'll bet not a one of you "enlightened" ones watched the entire context of Ann's comments on GMA that led to this setup on MSNBC. I'm betting my Senate race on this!...any takers?

Posted by foose on Jun 27 2007 11:49PM - Where are the illusive democratic plans to be viewed? I know that Kerry had a plan on "his web site" but I had trouble finding it. It's always easy to criticize but I'm waiting for a plan that I can buy into.

Posted by G M on Jun 28 2007 12:25AM - Ms. Coulter's statement that she wished that Mr. Edwards would be "killed in a terrorist assassination plot" could be a criminal offence (Solicitation of Crimes of Violence), see for example Count 3 of the U.S. v Ahmed Abdel Sattar case.

Posted by John Kaye on Jun 28 2007 12:49AM - Ann Coulter , the poster girl for the ( Christian and Family values ) Republican party , that about says it all doesn't it ? The only people more pathetic than Coulter are the Right wingers who defend her . Something is definitely wrong with you .

Posted by Cipriano on Jun 28 2007 1:56AM - A pig wearing a pretty black dress is still a sow...slings mud, wallows in it, and stinks.

Posted by El Roy on Jun 28 2007 2:00AM - I'd be hateful too if the men who found me attractive were Cheney, Limbaugh, and Rove.

Posted by Ei on Jun 28 2007 7:03AM - Bill Maher is a comedian. Ann Coulter is (supposedly) an "expert" and a "pundit," which, in my mind, means she has a responsibility to talk knowledgeably about the issues, which she most assuredly does not do. Why she keeps getting booked on any MSM talk show is beyond me.

Posted by Sam on Jun 28 2007 8:01AM - I think Ann Coulter is like the character attorney Marvin Belli played in an original Star Trek episode... the Gorgan. At the end of the episode, when the children desert him, the Gorgon becomes disfigured, then disintegrates. Let's hope the same happens to Ann Coulter.

Posted by robo on Jun 28 2007 9:51AM - bah the left is just ticked off still that they no longer are the only voice in media and actually have some popular entertainers on the side of the right against them for once. Ever since Fox news and Rush Limbaugh started the monopoly the left has had over the media has been broken and they are still just angry about it. bunch of cry babies.

Posted by J Hill on Jun 28 2007 10:13AM - I Love how all of the liberal television shows set her up to be shot down. They give someone who really has no say in politics other then baking cookies before an election all of the time in the world uninterupted and the second she tries to respond the host interupts here repeatedly with his own biased views of thing. Thats why I refuse to watch hardball.

Posted by Rich on Jun 28 2007 10:36AM - It would be great if the air heads on here actually knew what they were talking about. The exact quote: "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I'm - so, kind of at an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards, so I think I'll just conclude here and take your questions."

Check her bio. When half of you accomplsh even a part of what's she's done, you might have the creds to post a comment.

Posted by R Block on Jun 28 2007 10:44AM - Interesting how a majority of the Coulter-backers use the argument that two wrongs make a right: If Bill Maher can say something unseemly, then it's OK for Anne to do the same.

I remember feeling the same way. Then I got promoted to second grade.

Posted by batrhyme on Jun 28 2007 10:45AM - We need to reinforce who and what the right wing commentators really are: Paid shills. That is their only credential so it should follow their name. Every time you use one of their names (in speech or print), follow it with 'Paid shill'. For example:

Ann Coulter, paid shill, said...
Sean Hanity, paid shill, said...
Rush Limbaugh, paid shill, said...
Bill O'Rielly, paid shill, said...
Lou Dobbs, paid shill, said...
Dennis Miller, paid shill, said...

This will remind people to bestow upon them the credibility that they deserve, which is none.

Posted by j on Jun 28 2007 11:13AM - once the dems take the white house ann will be in hiding in the mountains (just like bin laden) for fear that the terrorists will be gunning for her after they follow us home from iraq.

Posted by Bonniet@Cheerful.com on Jun 28 2007 11:15AM - Ann Coulter needs to vanish! She's worst than horrible. Anyone who thinks the death of a child is humor needs to go away.

Posted by oslin on Jun 28 2007 11:19AM - All the whle Ms. Edwards asked coulter to engage in more productive debate on the issues rather than making personal attacks coulter kept adjusting her hair.

Classic.

Posted by J. Grant on Jun 28 2007 11:38AM - Ann Coulter has addressed all important issues in her book. She is marginalized and slandered by the liberal media because they don't want people to take her valid points about "the issues" seriously. This is much the same behavior taken by the right against Noam Chomsky. Ann's only strategy is to lob the most offensive sound-bytes that will hopefully point out issues about candidates like John Edwards, that he's basically being commandeered by NARAL, which Ann has made plenty of cogent analysis about regarding social morality. What does she say, abortion is a license for irresponsible sex with a man who doesn't want either the child nor the woman he is taking advantage of. Keep up the good work A.C.

Posted by Jeff Richards on Jun 28 2007 11:41AM - Right on Ann! The "issues" are exactly what was being discussed. If Edwards taking $50k to speak to the poor while pretending to be a defender of the same is not an "issue" then what is? The liberals want to be the "holy-annoited" definer of the issues. John Edwards is the biggest joke that has ever been in a presidential race. He attempts to look humble, and "all American," by talking about the son that he lost and the wife who has cancer. Well, those are not issues, so why does Edwards himself talk about them???

Posted by J Cates on Jun 28 2007 11:45AM - The only problem with this immature kind of entertainment is that many Americans actually confuse this with reality-based journalistic programs. To debate issues would require intelligence, knowledge & research of the issues and facts which obviously escape Ann Coulter. Hurrah for Elizabeth Edwards to be forthright & honest enough to directly respond (without the Coulter-style of name calling). She is a breath of fresh air!

Posted by Jason on Jun 28 2007 11:51AM - Edwards is acting like a baby. Ann Coulter is a columnist who's job is to be controversial. She's not reporting news, she's giving her opinion. The left claims to support free speech and then they deny Ann her free speech rights. It's OK to say whatever you want if you're a liberal. If you're a conservative y
