In my opinion Trent Lott should be seeking different employment:

Lott Lashes Out! GOP Senate whip Trent Lott attacks ”these talk-radio people who don’t even know what’s in the bill.” The New York Times reports:

Comments by Republican senators on Thursday suggested that they were feeling the heat from conservative critics of the bill, who object to provisions offering legal status. The Republican whip, Trent Lott of Mississippi, who supports the bill, said: “Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.”

I think the most shocking thing about the Immigration Amnesty bill is how vitriolic Republican leadership has been to its base that disagree with them.  Nearly all conservatives oppose amnesty.  I guess you can disagree with your base but you need to do it without intentionally alienating them.

I absolutely don’t understand the motivation of the Republicans who support amnesty for illegals.  We’ve tried it before and it made the matter worse.  What’s happening is that the politicians know they can’t sell their real reasoning to the public and they can’t convince anyone based on the merits of the bill.  Apparently this is creating a huge frustration in them so much so they are lashing out and attacking the motives of those people they need to support them in other legislation

I used to think although President Bush was dead wrong on immigration he truly thought it was the best policy for the country.  But when he lashes out and says the people that oppose amnesty don’t want what’s best for the country I have to question HIS motives.  After all if it really was best for the country the proponents could make that case, but they aren’t

So now Trent Lott is threatening talk radio.  He’s saying that talk radio doesn’t even know what’s in the bill.  If that’s the case then he could point out where Rush is dead wrong on an issue, but he doesn’t.  We don’t need to know the details of the legislation we only need to know the broad aspects of it.  People that broke our law will be rewarded for breaking that law.  People that fled orders to leave will be granted amnesty too. Illegals who didn’t pay their taxes will not have to pay their back taxes.  We won’t take internal immigration enforcement any more seriously in the future

Trent Lott needs to find another job

Lets hear the truth??

This bill imposes penalties and has specific requirements for illegal immigrants seeking legal status. While it provides a legal route for current illegal immigrants, it DOES NOT simply forgive them.
Debate the actual content of the issues, please. "Amnesty" is just rhetoric, and those using this terminology do so because they are unwilling to debate substance.

That's nonsense!
This evil bill gives automatic "z: visa to any illegal that applies for that visa in just 24 hours, whether the INS has even started any background checks on them or not.
Now that is s heinous crime being visited on the American people by the irrespsonsible, anti-American, brain dead US Senators.
I would like to know eactly how Jorge Bush and his minions can show me exactly how they propose to do PROPER background checks on up to 20 million illegals, 100% of whome where born outside america and spent a solid chuck of their lives outside America

Posted by George Anderson on Jun 18 2007 2:54AM - What is going on in this country. George Bush, whom I voted for twice, has turned out to be the worst President since Jimmy Carter. And other Republican leaders are ignoring the conservative voices of America! I will not vote for another person not of a conservative bent. Get all others out of office!! Look what liberals and moderates have done to this country. Can't they see what the ILLEGAL immigration has done, continues to do, and will do in the future? Amazing. And how should those working to be in this country legally feel about our system. Thank you Terry for continuing to be a strong voice.

Posted by Tim Gawne on Jun 18 2007 10:35AM - The people pushing for this illegal immigrant amnesty/legal immigrant surge bill know EXACTLY what they are doing. They are increasing competition for jobs, which drives down wages, and drives up profits. PERIOD. Follow the money!

Bush's 'base' is not conservatives. Bush's base is the same as Ted Kennedy's: rich people. Look at how people live in places like Mexico or Pakistan. And yet, while the average person in the overpopulated third world lives a life not much different from that in a Nazi slave labor camp, the elites do very well indeed. There is nothing so profitable to the rich as a limitless supply of 50-cents-an-hour labor. And yes, it can happen here.

Posted by Charles on Jun 18 2007 10:04PM - Bush is out of touch with reality. Perhaps we didn't explain to him (using small words and talking slowly so he understands) that illegal alien amnesty would effectively end the GOP. Perhaps we should explain to the Dems in a similar fashion that their adoring labor unions won't be pleased when the Mexis are making their wage. Time to send the nice Mexican people back home to Mexico.
I would hate to see violence and bloodshed here on our soil when we decide to send them home, should they not go happily. I'm quite sure that whatever they start we will end.

Posted by AmericanWorker on Jun 19 2007 9:02AM - Don’t you just love talk radio?I like to call it “Free Speech”,A way the people can voice their view.
I live and work here in Ms,It is not true what he has told the press,We do care,And we do want the Jobs!
I have worked in the construction business for 21 years and it really hard to compete with someone who will work for $5 an hour CASH and not pay taxes.
I cannot support my family on that,Besides I need insurance for my children and they don’t because they use the local hospitals to flip their medical bills.
WE DO WANT THE JOBS! Jobs that pay a decent wage.
I think Sen.Lott has been bribed by some big business to help pave the way for cheap labor.
Lott,You are a traitor,You have sold us out.
