Gaza violence...Obama's meetings...Contractor indicted



GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) Israeli ground troops have taken control of three 6-story buildings on the outskirts of Gaza City.

The Israeli military also says air strikes hit 30 more targets overnight, including an underground arms bunker in the Gaza City area. That strike touched off secondary explosions and collapsed underground smuggling tunnels.

Washington (AP) President-elect Barack Obama will be on Capitol Hill today, pushing lawmakers to quickly pass an economic stimulus plan he wants to sign once he takes office. Democratic leaders say he may have to wait until mid-February. Obama plans to meet with members of both parties.

WASHINGTON (AP) President-elect Barack Obama's two daughters are checked into their new school in Washington. Michelle Obama escorted 10-year-old Malia to the fifth grade, and 7-year-old Sasha to second grade at the private Sidwell Friends school.

NEW YORK (AP) Wall Street is showing some caution in the first full week of the new year. Stocks are lower in early trading. A Friday rally left the Dow at a two-month high.

NEW YORK (AP) A contractor has been indicted on homicide charges in a crane collapse that killed seven people in midtown Manhattan last year. The contractor's lawyer tells The Associated Press his client maintains he's innocent.
