Associated Press Washington (AP) A new addition to President-elect Barack Obama's Cabinet. Retired Gen. Eric Shinseki (shin-SEHK'-ee), a former Army chief of staff and early critic of the Bush administration's Iraq war strategy, is expected to be named as the next Veterans Affairs secretary today. NEW ORLEANS (AP) Before now, Republican attorney Anh "Joseph" Cao's only political experience was an unsuccessful run for the Louisiana state legislature. Now, in an election delayed by Hurricane Gustav, Cao has won a place in the U.S. Capitol after forcing Congressman William Jefferson from his seat. Jefferson is being charged with bribery and money laundering. PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) The boldest attack yet on trucks carrying supplies to NATO and U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Pakistani authorities say suspected militants have torched 106 vehicles and killed a guard at a transport terminal near the city of Peshawar. CHICAGO (AP) Jesse Jackson plans to help out workers protesting in a factory in Chicago. The workers were only given three days notice that their factory was shutting down, and say they'll remain in the factory until they're assured they'll get severance and vacation pay. Jackson plans to join their cause this morning. EDWARDS Air Force BASE, Calif. (AP) It's back on Earth, but Endeavour still has a few thousand miles to go before it's back home. The shuttle, which landed safely in California after bad weather kept it from its Florida runway, will make its cross country trek starting tomorrow. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
