Obama also announced that Robert Gates will stay on as defense secretary. In a statement, Bill Clinton says his wife is the "right person" to restore the nation's image abroad, help end the war in Iraq, and advance peace and security. CHICAGO (AP) Barack Obama says he wants to consult with military commanders before settling on a firm timetable to pull U.S. combat troops from Iraq. But he says 16 months still looks like the "right time frame." MUMBAI, India (AP) The United States is calling on Pakistan to cooperate in the investigation into the deadly terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says Pakistan needs to "follow the evidence wherever it leads." India has blamed the attacks on a Pakistani militant group. Washington (AP) For Americans struggling to find work, it's looked like a recession for a whlie and now, a team of economists confirms that's exactly what it is. The panel from the National Bureau of Economic Research says the economy fell into a recession in December of last year. Many economists believe the downturn will last until the middle of 2009. NEW YORK (AP) Last week's gains on Wall Street are disappearing quickly today. The Dow has been down by more than 400 points, amid concern about the holiday shopping season. There are also two discouraging economic reports. Manufacturing activity fell to a 26-year low in November.
