MUMBAI, India (AP) A top aide says India's home minister has offered to resign in the wake of the deadly terror attacks in Mumbai. The resignation was sent to the prime minister as a way of taking responsibility for the attacks that killed at least 170 people. The prime minister has yet to respond.

UNDATED (AP) Democratic officials say President-elect Barack Obama will officially nominate Hillary Rodham Clinton to be his secretary of state on Monday. The choice is seen as an extraordinary gesture in the wake of the long, bitter primary battle between the two Democrats.

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) At least 51 people have been wounded in a series of explosions in Bangkok, Thailand. The blasts seemed to target anti-government protest sites. An ongoing standoff between the government and its opponents has strangled Thailand's economy and shut down its airports.

CHICAGO (AP) Consumers kicked off a healthy start to the holiday shopping season Friday, with retailers ringing up about $10.6 billion in sales. But that may have come at the expense of profits. The nation's retailers had to slash prices to lure in the crowds.

HOBART, Australia (AP) Rescuers hoping to save about 150 stranded whales found the animals all dead or dying by the time they reached the remote site in southern Australia. Wildlife officials say the reefs and jagged rocks quickly doomed the creatures.
