Late rally...Obama's Cabinet...Boston City Hall

NEW YORK (AP) Traders have been doing some bargain shopping heading into the weekend, and reports that President-elect Barack Obama may name his economic team Monday inspired a late session rally. The Dow rose 494 points to close at 8,046. The S&P 500 gained about 48 points to 800, while the Nasdaq added 68 to 1,384.

Washington (AP) More names are leaking out for President-elect Barack Obama's Cabinet. A senior Democratic officials say New York Federal Reserve President Timothy Geithner (GYT'-nur) is the likely pick for Treasury secretary. Officials say New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is emerging as the top choice for Commerce secretary.

And a spokesman for Sen. Hillary CLinton say talks are "very much on track" for her to be nominated for secretary of State.

BOSTON (AP) FBI agents have arrested a Boston city council member after he was videotaped allegedly taking a $1,000 bribe from an undercover agent. Chuck Turner professed his innocence after a court hearing today. The arrest is part of an expanding investigation into corruption at Boston City Hall and the Massachusetts Statehouse.

HOUSTON (AP) Astronauts have been taking the afternoon off, but earlier in the day they used space shuttle Endeavour to boost the international space station about a mile higher. The maneuver puts the station at the right altitude for a cargo delivery by a Russian spaceship.

WASHINGTON (AP) President-elect Barack Obama and his wife have chosen the school their daughters will attend when the family moves to Washington in January. It's Sidwell Friends. That's the same private school that Chelsea Clinton attended.
