Associated Press Washington (AP) A bipartisan group of auto-state senators has put together a compromise deal an a bailout for Detroit's Big Three automakers. It would temporarily divert money from a fuel-efficiency loan program to cover immediate costs. Earlier, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said the Senate is not likely consider the bill until after Thanksgiving. NEW YORK (AP) Stocks crept into positive territory for a while this afternoon, but then headed lower again. Reports that new claims for unemployment benefits rose to a 16-year high last week, and thatthe October index of leading indicators fell 0.8 percent, have helped push prices down. But news from Capitol Hill of a compromise on an auto industry bailout helped send stocks in the other direction. WASHINGTON (AP) Word is filtering out on more likely members of Barack Obama's cabinet. Top advisers to the president-elect and several Democrats say Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano is the top contender for secretary of homeland security. WASHINGTON (AP) A federal judge has ordered the release of five Algerians held at Guantanamo Bay. ATLANTA (AP) The restaurant industry says a new study linking obesity and fast-food ads is based on old information. The study out today suggests that banning fast-food ads on TV could reduce obesity the number of obese children by 18 percent.
