Lawmakers criticize Treasury...Obama talks to former rivals

Washington (AP) Lawmakers are criticizing the Treasury department's plan to shift how it spends $700 billion in economic bailout money. One congressman says the department isn't making an effort to ward off foreclosures and keep people in their homes.

Congress can block release of more of the rescue money.

WASHINGTON (AP) One senior adviser to President-elect Barack Obama says Obama has given no evidence whom he is favoring for secretary of state. Democratic officials say Obama has talked with Hillary Rodham CLinton and Bill Richardson about the Cabinet position.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) A wildfire may have burned up to 200 homes in Montecito, California. More than 1,000 firefighters are hoping to contain the blaze. The fire is in an exclusive community to the rich and famous near Santa Barbara. The Los Angeles Times reports at least part of actor Christopher Lloyd's property is damaged.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Police in Northern California are looking for a gunman they say killed three people at an office park. They say two men and a woman were killed in the shooting this afternoon in Santa Clara.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) The crew of space shuttle Endeavour is headed to the international space station. The shuttle blasted off from Florida this evening on a 15-day mission.
