Dow wow!...GOP governors meeting...Earthquake drill

NEW YORK (AP) It's been a day of eye-popping volatility on Wall Street. The Dow industrials fell sharply lower, than rose almost 900 points to close up 553 points.

MIAMI (AP) There's a lot of talk about their party's future as Republican governors meet in Miami. Alaska Governor sarah palin urged Republicans "not to be the negative party," but to restrain Democratic initiatives.

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) An explosion that's leveled a restaurant in Pueblo, Colorado, has killed one person and injured five others.

The rubble will be searched for other possible survivors. No word yet what caused the explosion.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) NASA is more upbeat about the weather for tomorrow's scheduled shuttle launch. Forecasters say there's a 70 percent chance of acceptable conditions. Liftoff is set for 7:55 p.m., Eastern time. a0746

LOS ANGELES (AP) Millions of people in Southern California have taken part in an earthquake drill billed as the biggest in American history. It included victims with fake blood, and TV coverage as if it were a real disaster. a0947
