CARSON, Calif. (AP) sarah palin is questioning Barack Obama's patriotism, saying he pals "around with terrorists." The reference is to Obama's association with one of the founders of the radical 60's group the Weather Underground. Obama was just a child when the group was active, and his association with the founder is not a close one.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) Barack Obama is criticizing John McCain's health care proposal. Obama says McCain's plan could force millions of Americans to struggle to buy health insurance, while he says his would reduce premiums for most people by "as much as $2,500 per family."


NEW YORK (AP) A New York judge has temporarily blocked the sale of Wachovia to Wells Fargo, after Wachovia tried to back out of a deal made first with Citigroup. A Wachovia spokeswoman says Citigroup is free to make a better offer.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Even a federal bribery scandal may not cost William Jefferson his seat in Congress. He's the lead vote getter in a Democratic primary for his New Orleans-based seat. A runoff against the second place finisher will be held next month.

LAKEPORT, Calif. (AP) Thousands of dead carp have some northern California residents holding their noses. While officials work to determine the cause of the die off in Clear Lake, trenches are being dug so residents can bury the fish and limit the smell.
