Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) Authorities say at least 25 people were killed in yesterday's collision between a commuter train and freight train in Los Angeles. It appears the commuter engineer failed to heed a stop signal. Investigators recovered data recorders from both trains and a video recorder that should provide head-on views. MOSCOW (AP) Russian news reports say a Boeing-737 carrying 88 people has crashed trying to land in central Russia, killing all aboard. A spokeswoman for Russia's ministry of emergency situations says the victims include seven children. AUSTIN (AP) Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says more rescues and fatalities from Ike are possible as rescuers continue their "full-court press." He says the quickly changing path of the storm made decisions on evacuation orders difficult. He says the next step will be getting millions of meals and bottles of water to those in need. (AP) sarah palin has made her first solo campaign appearance outside her home state, teling a crowd tonight in Carson City, Nevada, that she and John McCain are going to shake things up.
