MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) Tropical Storm Hanna has brought wind and heavy rain to the Carolinas, but it hasn't done much damage.

The storm is expected to run up the Eastern Seaboard, dumping rain all the way to New England. Meanwhile, there's a big exodus of tourists and locals from the Turks and Caicos islands ahead of Hurricane Ike. The powerful, Category 3 storm could eventually hit Florida.

Washington (AP) What would happen if mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were to collapse? The government doesn't want to find out. As soon as today or tomorrow, the government is expected to take them over, in hopes of protecting the mortgage market from the failure of the companies that either hold or guarantee half of the nation's mortgage debt. That's according to a person who's been briefed on it.

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) One striking Boeing machinist says it's about respect. The aircraft assembly workers went on strike today after federally mediated contract talks failed to produce an agreement. Key issues include pay, outsourcing, retirement and health care benefits.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) Benazir Bhutto didn't live to lead Pakistan again, but now her husband will. The widower of the slain former leader won a landslide election today, putting him in line to succeed Pervez Musharraf as the leader of a country that's been a U.S. ally in the war on terrorism.

UNDATED (AP) John McCain and sarah palin are campaigning again today in battleground states, in the aftermath of the Republican convention. They'll appear at rallies in Colorado and New Mexico.

Barack Obama appears at a rally in Indiana. In Pennsylvania yesterday, he focused on the 6.1 percent jobless rate, and accused Republicans of ignoring the middle class.
