KXMCTV Minot It, is Parkinson's disease. The disorder of the brain causes those who have it to struggle with tremors, keeping their balance, and being constantly stiff. But as medical research progresses, treatments of Parkinson's is improving. Those who attended a Patient and Family Symposium today heard about new treatments from Dr. Ralph Dunnigan of Bismarck. He says every person's treatment plan is different...but one new method gaining in popularity is helping many who suffer very severe side effects from Parkinson's... (Dr. Ralph T. Dunnigan - Neurologist) "The newest treatment being the deep brain stimulator. We implant wires deep in the brain and they go to a little pacemaker that delivers a charge to the brain. It is a relatively new, effective treatment." Dr. Dunnigan was one of five speakers at today's symposium.
