Forecasters are calling for heavy rain in the Mid-Atlantic states. Some spots could see up to 10 inches. Trailing behind Hanna is a much more dangerous Hurricane Ike. It could hit Florida by mid week. Washington (AP) The nation's jobless rate has topped 6 percent for the first time in five years and is likely to go higher in the months ahead. The Labor Department says it jumped from 5.7 percent in July to 6.1 percent in August. Such a sharp increase is usually a strong warning of a recession. DURYEA, Pa. Police say a man who wrested a gun from a police officer and took hostages in a bank in Wheaton, Illinois, has killed himself. The incident began when an officer responded to a hit-and-run accident.
