Minot Woman is Friend of VP CandidateSep 4 2008 11:08PM
KXMBTV Bismarck You may find yourself wondering, "What are they up to?" Well, one Minot woman doesn't get to see much of her high school friend, but lately, it's been a lot easier keeping up with what's going on in her life. Dan Erdmann has more. (Dan Erdmann, KX News) Try to imagine sitting at home one night watching TV, when suddenly you hear a friend's name on the air. Pretty exciting right? But what if that name was called as a Vice Presidential candidate? Katy Allers knows the feeling. (Katy Allers, Friend of Palin) "It was unbelievable! It was amazing. It was just neat to see that, wow, she went far. She reached her dreams." (Dan Erdmann, KX News) Like sarah palin, Allers is a graduate of Alaska's Wasilla High School. She says Palin was very well-liked among students and someone she looked up to. (Katy Allers, Friend of Palin) "I always admired Sarah, she was a couple years older than me. She was a senior when I was a sophomore and I was on the varsity Basketball team, and so she was the captain." (Dan Erdmann, KX News) That was 1982, and that basketball team ended up winning the state championship that year. Allers says back then, she would've never imagined Palin as Governor, and definitely not a VP candidate. But she says based on her character, it all makes sense. (Katy Allers, Friend of Palin) "She's just the salt of the earth. She's just a down-to-earth person, a natural leader. That's what I noticed most about her was that she was just a leader." (Dan Erdmann, KX News) Lately, Palin's been under some pretty intense scrutiny in the media, which Allers says is hard for her to watch. But despite all the nay-sayers, she believes her friend is qualified, and more than ready for the job. (Katy Allers, Friend of Palin) "I believe she can step into any situation. People talk about the experience, and maybe having less experience will help her get into there with a whole new perspective and a different perspective." (Dan Erdmann, KX News) Allers admits, before now, she never really paid much attention to politics. She's not a democrat or a republican, but says she's definitely got her eyes open in this race. And come November, a friendship she built nearly 30 years ago, will probably affect her ballot. (Katy Allers, Friend of Palin) "I am going to definitely vote for McCain." Dan Erdmann, KX News. Allers has been living in Minot since college
