Heritage village at Rushmore sparks commentsAug 30 2008 4:13PM
Associated Press Five days a week, American Indians staff the exhibit, practice traditional arts and answer visitors' questions about their history and community. It's part of Baker's attempt to introduce an Indian perspective at the Shrine of Democracy. But some say the Heritage village is an appeasement to Indians and doesn't fit with what critics see as the theme of Mount Rushmore. Baker, an American Indian, says he's bothered by such comments but that in America, people can speak their minds. He says people with questions or disagreements on his plans for Mount Rushmore should visit the monument and talk with him. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
