Duncan blames revenge for heinous crimes

Eds: APNewsNow. Will be led.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) Convicted pedophile Joseph Duncan III claims his decision to abduct, torture and kill a 9-year-old Idaho boy in 2005 was no accident, but part of a hate-filled plan fueled by revenge.

Duncan, acting as his own attorney, shared those thoughts with a jury as part of his closing statement in the sentencing phase of his federal kidnapping and murder case.

The 45-year-old former Fargo man pleaded guilty in December to 10 federal charges stemming from his 2005 kidnapping of Shasta and Dylan Groene, and the murder of Dylan at a remote campsite in Montana's Lolo National Forest.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Duncan says his intention was to rape and kill until someone killed him.
