Dead fish found in Souris riverAug 21 2008 8:32AM
Associated Press Minot, N.D. (AP) Officials say a lack of dissolved oxygen likely is the reason for a fish kill in the Souris River in Minot. Dead fish have been seen floating in parts of the river within the city. Game and Fish Department district fisheries supervisor Jason Lee says tests found a low level of dissolved oxygen. He says it was only 0.5 parts per million, and fish usually need at least 3 parts per million to survive. Flows in the Souris have been low. Lee says the vegetation appears to be using up the dissolved oxygen. In Burke County, a fish die-off was reported at Northgate Dam. Fisheries supervisor Fred Ryckman says some of the waters are too warm for trout habitat. Information from: Minot Daily News, http://www.minotdailynews.com (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
