Tubbs Jones Dies...U.SIraq agreement...Target: BinAug 20 2008 6:55PM
Associated Press EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) Democratic Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, has died after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Jones, a staunch opponent of the Iraq war, was 58. BAGHDAD (AP) Senior U.S. and Iraqi officials tell The Associated Press there's now a draft security agreement that would see American troops leave Iraqi cities as soon as next June. The Iraqi government is still pushing for a date by which all U.S. forces would depart the country, most likely in 2011. Washington (AP) The U.S. cruise-missile strike on an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan in 1998 was meant to kill Osama bin Laden. State Department documents show the near-miss may have lead to better relations between the al-Qaida leader and the Taliban. OSLO, Norway (AP) Norway's Defense Ministry says Russia has informed Oslo that it plans to suspend all military ties with NATO. That word comes a day after the military alliance urged Moscow to withdraw its forces from Georgia. WASHINGTON (AP) A federal judge has ruled that Senator Ted Stevens cannot move his corruption trial from Washington to his home state of Alaska. That could hamstring the 84-year-old Republican's re-election bid, cutting down on his ability to campaign. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 08-20-08 1845CDT |
