NEW YORK (AP) New York City police now say a man suspected in a killing in Lynn, Massachusetts, did not kidnap his family before being arrested in Brooklyn. Police say the woman and her four young children apparently traveled along willingly, and are in good health. She is not believed to be an accomplice. a0892

Washington (AP) The bill to help 400,000 homeowners with their mortgage load now has President Bush's signature. That means about 15 percent of those facing foreclosure in the next year or so will be able to refinance with loans backed by the government.

WASHINGTON (AP) President Bush has signed an executive order revising the rules on spying. An administration official says it covers espionage both at home and abroad, and has been under revision for more than a year. The official says the new order keeps the prohibitions on assassination and human testing.

AURORA, Colo. (AP) The latest John McCain TV ad set for airing in 11 battleground states compares Barack Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. A voiceover says, "He's the biggest celebrity in the world, but is he ready to lead?" An Obama ad calls McCain's complaints "baloney" and "baseless."


CHICAGO (AP) The Obama campaign is taking the rapper Ludacris to task for a rhyme described as "outrageously offensive." It criticizes John McCain, Hillary CLinton, President Bush and Jesse Jackson.
