MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) Former Mitchell teacher and coach Andy Tate wants the school district's insurance to pay his legal bills in a recent lawsuit brought by a former student.

Brittany Plamp said Tate inappropriately touched her while they were alone in a high school classroom. She sued the district, which added Tate as a third-party defendant.

A federal jury ruled that she was the victim of battery by Tate, but it said the school district was not responsible.

Tate puts his legal bill at around $25,000.

No word yet on whether the district's insurance through the Associated School Boards of South Dakota will pay.
