Program sees big increase in donated deerApr 28 2008 4:55PM
Associated Press Jeff Olson, president of the group, said the generosity of hunters fed many residents. He says the program received 75,000 pounds of venison an increase of 30,000 pounds from the previous year. Each deer produces 40-60 pounds of processed burger. A pound of burger is considered enough for a meal for four people. Sportsmen Against Hunger is funded by hunters who can donate when applying for hunting licenses and through several cash or in-kind corporate sponsors. Last year, Olson says Sportsmen Against Hunger made available $50 coupons good for processing the donated meat.
