Obama the 'underdog'...Bush on economy...Fuel economy plan...Apr 22 2008 2:42PM
Associated Press PHILADELPHIA (AP) Barack Obama says his campaign has made "enormous progress" in Pennsylvania, but that he still considers himself the underdog in the state's Democratic primary. Hillary Rodham CLinton needs the win as she trails Obama in the delegate count and in popular vote. Poll workers are reporting high turnout across the state. NEW ORLEANS (AP) President Bush says the country is in an economic "slowdown," not a recession. Asked about the economy today in New Orleans, the president said rising Gasoline Prices are "like a tax on our working people," but wouldn't say if those prices would erode the impact of the recently passed economic stimulus package. Washington (AP) The Bush administration says new cars and trucks will have to achieve an average of 31.6 miles-per-gallon by 2015. The plan, considered more aggressive than what industry officials had expected, is in response to a new energy law that requires the nation's new cars and trucks, taken as a collective average, to meet 35 miles-per-gallon by 2020. CHESTERFIELD, S.C. (AP) Prosecutors in South Carolina say a teenager accused of planning to bomb his high school will face a federal charge of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. Ryan Schallenberger (SHAL'-en-bur-gur) was arrested Saturday after his parents called police because he had ordered 10 pounds of ammonium nitrate. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Two teenagers are being questioned in Indianapolis in connection with the shooting of a pregnant bank teller. Police say the teller, who is five months pregnant with twins, was in serious to critical condition after being shot in the stomach. Police did not say whether her fetuses were hit.
