Dorgan: Study on oil potential in Bakken formation to be released Eds: APNewsNow. Will be led.

Bismarck, N.D. (AP) Sen. Byron Dorgan says the U.S. Geological Survey is slated to release a study this week on the oil potential of the area known as the Bakken formation.

The shale formation encompasses some 25,000 square miles in North Dakota, Montana, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Dorgan says the study is to be released Thursday. He says it will estimate the amount of oil that is recoverable in the Bakken using current technology.

In 1995, the Geological Survey estimated the amount of recoverable oil in the Bakken at 151 million barrels.

Dorgan says technology has come far since then.

Posted by Freeman, G on Apr 10 2008 12:15AM - So why have we been discussing ANWR Alaska for the last 10 years?
Answer: Bakken = 151 million barrels; ANWR = 10000 million barrels.
We need to conserve our resources with 50 mile/gal hybrids and not waste them by burning oil in 15 mile/gal cars. This would reduce the demand and reduce the price. At the same time we should open ANWR and put a $50 per barrel tax on oil and use to money for energy sources that are alternative to fossil fuels. The result would be gas prices at $3.00 per gal, less carbon released, and reduced cost of family transportation using high efficiency alternative energy sources.

But I am just dreaming. Instead we will let oil go to $150 per barrel, send the money to those who wish to kill us, and waste trillions to fight wars to keep the oil flowing.

Canadians want to kill us? Who knew?
