As last crash victim laid to rest, town overwhelms with cupcakes...Feb 28 2008 8:06PM
Associated Press COTTONWOOD, Minn. (AP) When the town of Cottonwood was faced with one of the worst tragedies imaginable, people responded by making cupcakes. A lot of cupcakes. Last week's school bus crash in the southwestern Minnesota town killed four students. The last of four funerals was held today, for 12-year-old Reed Stevens. Prior to the first of the funerals on Sunday, volunteers were asked to bring about two dozen cupcakes each to Christ Lutheran Church. Word spread quickly through the town and organizers quickly realized they had a massive surplus. The school cook who helped coordinate food says that after funerals on Sunday and Monday that had a total of about 25-hundred visitors, there were still more than two thousand cupcakes still left over. Volunteer Anne Isaackson calls it a "cupcake miracle." Another volunteer says the need for many to do something was overwhelming.
