Events planned today to mark 35th anniversary of abortion ruling...Jan 22 2008 2:13AM
Associated Press ST. PAUL (AP) It was 35 years ago today that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun delivered the court's landmark decision establishing a nationwide right to abortion. The decision remains controversial, and activists on both sides of the abortion debate will be marking the anniversary in Minnesota and throughout the nation. Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life will hold its annual march at the state Capitol, where lawmakers, politicians and others who opposing abortion will air their views. The march begins at noon followed by the program. On the other side, Minnesota groups supporting the Supreme Court decision wind up five days of events commemorating the anniversary with a legislative preview session from six to eight this evening at the St. Paul clinic of Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota. The meeting follows yesterday's rally at Central High School in St. Paul. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 01-22-08 0201CST |
