Legislation Allows Victims of Train Derailment to Collect DamagesJul 27 2007 7:35PM
KXMCTV Minot North Dakota legislators say the provision that ends the railroad's protection from lawsuits is part of a national security bill now awaiting the president's signature. The bill is in response to court rulings in recent years that have said that individuals can't sue railroads for their actions on the night of January 18th, 2002. However, it wouldn't apply to anyone who has settled already with the railroad. As of now it's unclear what effect this law would have on pending lawsuits.
